If I invite you to my house, understand one thing: the invitation is mine. The manners should be yours.
Never arrive empty-handed.
If you’re educated, bring flowers, dessert or a bottle of wine. Nothing expensive. Just evidence that your education went beyond passing exams.
If you’re a villager, bring nduma, sugarcane, bananas or milk from your cow. Surely, something in your homestead must be productive.
I can comfortably feed you. That was never the issue. The gesture shows appreciation, consideration and good breeding.
Don’t arrive with two swinging arms and an appetite as though you’ve been summoned for relief food.
I hope I’m clear!
Urgency drains your energy. Don't rush into things. It will only make you more anxious. Not everything needs to be solved today. Slow down. Take a breath. Let things unfold. Give yourself enough space to think, feel, and respond instead of constantly reacting. Be slow. Be calm. Be fully present in everything you do. What I've learned is that some of the best decisions in life are made when you stop trying to outrun the moment.
The fact that you can’t check into a hotel until 4pm when the day is basically over but have to check out by 10am the next morning should honestly be illegal.
I’m a retired brain surgeon and I wanna tell you why you feel like life is passing by. I just need one minute to explain this to you so hang in there.
Repetitive daily routines stop the brain from recording clear detailed memories. When every day looks the same, your brain does not track time the same as a clock does. It tracks change. If nothing new happens then days, months, and years start to blur together.
This is know as Time compression. When life lacks variety, your brain compresses past days together, making it feel like time is sped up.
To stop feeling like life is passing you by, add new experiences to your life. Break routine habits, like changing your daily home routine, taking a different route to work, or trying a new hobby.
Schedule small trips or plan new adventures so your days do not blend together.
Practice mindfulness by staying fully focused on what you are doing right now and not trying to race off to the next task.
Keep a journal and write down happy memories or memorable parts of the day before you go to sleep.
Take deep, calm breaths when you feel anxious or rushed to return your focus to the moment.
You can and you will retrain your brain to not feel like life is passing you by by following these few simple measures.
Underrated life advice from someone who's 45 and been there... Leave a little early. The dinner. The party. The night out. So you still like how it ended. The last hour is rarely the best one. Tomorrow will thank you.
Dear career woman, please, when it is time to make a lifetime commitment, do not marry down.
If you want to enjoy both your career and your marriage, be careful about marrying a man you are significantly ahead of academically and financially.
As time goes on your career will grow. Your income will grow. Your exposure and responsibilities will grow. If your husband is unable to grow with you, that gap will eventually become a source of conflict in the marriage.
Do not make the mistake of thinking love alone will close that gap. You may live to regret it.
Choose a man whose ambition, capacity and mindset is greater than yours so you can always look up to him.
If you so desire to be an exception, then good luck to you.
Your boundaries are your limits, self-love, self-care, and self-respect. If someone doesn't respect your boundaries, they don't respect you, so give them less access, distance yourself from them, minimize your interactions with them, and most importantly, stop respecting them.
THE ART OF MIND CONTROL:
1. If someone doesn't love you, pretend you don't even want them.
2. If someone makes fun of you , stay calm and smile. They will look foolish.
3. Never take a defensive position about anything. Just act as if you are not bothered.
4. Never show that you are upset about getting something.
5. Also, do not pay attention to your mistakes. Ignore them and others with do that as well.
When someone who dislikes you asks a question, they're not looking for an answer. They're setting a trap. Learn to interpret the difference between curiosity and interrogation. A genuine question opens a door and is in good faith. A hostile one is baiting you to walk into a trap and is in bad faith.
Tonight, drop the weight.
The past can’t be rewritten.
The future can’t be rushed.
So breathe.
Rest.
Believe.
Tomorrow, rise stronger, wiser and ready.
Goodnight, your next chapter is waiting.
