@vk5qi That's awesome, was that transmitting aprs? When you say cut down, did you physically cut off pieces of the pcb? Did you just use some party balloons? I would love to recreate this.
@vk5qi@rtlsdrblog@HobbyKingLive It is noticeable and will be an obstacle. I plan on locating the antenna further away, turning down the video transmitter power and adding a very narrow filter on the sdr.
@tdsepsilon@rtlsdrblog@HobbyKingLive For starters we're going to track radiosondes that have dropped below the radio horizon of our station. Later I'll experiment with carrying a Kerberos SDR and using the mobility to triangulate targets faster.
@Varuntronics@Nooelec@rtlsdrblog yes it worked very well with no LNA for filtering everything the Discone picks up but similar results could likely be achieved with a FM stop
@Varuntronics@rtlsdrblog @LairdConnect My station right now uses a Discone with a 400 mhz bpf. It has about 150+ miles of range when sondes are high. This is a monopole that I am testing to be mounted on a remote station up on a mountain.
@vk5qi@Varuntronics@projecthorus Yep, thoes batteries were just for testing, the ones it flew with got pretty smashed up. Thanks for the correction Mark, it would makes a lot more sense that the little board is for pressure readings.
@mikehojo ay, pretty cool! I made one a while back, the 2.4 Ghz dish's people use for GOES works a little better than mine, you can even get a mini one that is perfect for handheld radiosonde hunts. Definitely get a SawBird GOES from @Nooelec worth every penny.
@Nooelec@rtlsdrblog Its in action right now tracking tonight's @NWSSanDiego radiosonde, seems to be working extremely well. Might've been mostly FM that was causing the problem.
