I say to my cat (who is a girl) many times a day “you’re so pretty!” and sometimes I worry that my kids (both boys) will grow up thinking that I believe a girl’s appearance is all that matters, but I can’t in good conscience say things like “you’re so smart and hard-working and kind” because she is none of those things
