ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) once sat with his companions and said: make a wish. It was not idle. He wanted to see what their hearts reached for when handed the freedom to want anything at all.

One said: I wish this house were filled with gold, so I could spend every coin in the way of Allah. A fine wish. Umar said: wish again. Another said: I wish it were filled with pearls and jewels, to give all of it in charity. A finer wish. Umar said: wish again.

They ran dry. "We do not know what else to wish for, Amīr al-Muʾminīn." So he told them what he would have wished:

«ولكني أتمنى رجالاً مثل أبي عبيدة بن الجراح، ومعاذ بن جبل، وسالم مولى أبي حذيفة، فأستعملهم في طاعة الله»

"But I wish for men like Abū ʿUbaydah ibn al-Jarrāḥ, Muʿadh ibn Jabal, and Salim the freedman of Abū Hudhayfah, so that I could put them to work in the obedience of Allah."

Sit with the contrast. His companions did not even wish treasure for themselves; they wished it to give away for Allah. And still it did not satisfy him. The man governing an expanding state knew what they had missed: gold is spent once and it is gone. A single man of īmān keeps giving long after he is buried.

This was always the real wealth of Islam. The Prophet ﷺ died owning no treasure; his shield was pledged to a man for a measure of barley. What he left behind was not money. It was Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, ʿAlī, a whole generation he had raised by hand.

We spend our lives trying to fund the Ummah's problems. ʿUmar would tell us to raise its people. So whether you are bringing up a child or building an institution, his question is the one to keep: not how much can I gather, but who am I cultivating. Gold runs out. A person of īmān does not.

In recent Islamic history, two of the most slandered, vilified, and wronged scholars have been Shaykh al-Islām Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb and Shaykh Rabīʿ ibn Hādī al-Madkhalī — each a thorn in the throats of the people of misguidance and deviation.

The people of bidʿah, in their injustice and falsehood, have gone so far as to fabricate labels and sectarian identities around them, coining terms such as "Wahhābīs" and "Madkhalīs."

Whenever I witness the revilement, abuse, and attacks directed at them, I am reminded of the profound narration from ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her):

On the authority of Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him), he said:

It was said to ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her):

"Some people are speaking against the companions of the Messenger of Allāh (peace be upon him), even Abū Bakr and ʿUmar."

So she said:
"And why are you surprised by that? Their deeds have come to an end, so Allāh loves that their reward should not come to an end."

I evaded nothing. You just can't deal with the answer. You want to suggest that a scholar would act as you do: upon impulse, without consulting knowledge or its people. I am not so mean-spirited.

You want to make this about personalities rather than principles because that's what you're about. But transplant any scholar into the future and they'll be greatly saddened and disgusted at the prevalence of kufr and fisq — without necessarily taking it to takfir.

Transplant any Sahabi into the reign of the latter Umayyads, any Tabi into the reign of the latter Abbasids, any imam from the Salaf into any Chingisid Muslim Khanate, any of the imams of hadith into any of the emergent Muslim gunpowder states, any Mamluk scholar from Ibn Taymiyya's circle into any pre-modern Muslim society, any scholar from the pre-modern era into any modern Muslim nation state; do that and the course the mujtahid would take would be the same.

Namely, the God-fearing alim would study the situation, seek out his peers for consultation, debate them and their fatawa, and only upon careful deliberation make a final determination.

Your MiAW would likely start with a heart-to-heart with the knowledgeable ones from his descendants, such as Salih Al ash-Shaykh, and seek out the trustworthy Sunni / Salafi / Athari scholars beyond the KSA.

If the jamhur of the ulama refrain from takfir of KSA, which they presently do, its not unreasonable that your time-travelling Najdi would follow suit.

But all this pointless thought-experimenting, as well as deflecting from your shoddy history (ahistoric, more accurately) and your pandering to heterodoxy, only really serves to detract us from the obligations that are upon us: namely, to holdfast to the Sunna and the Sunni creed, the be-all and end-all of which is the call to tawhid.

1. How exactly is Pakistan placed in the US foreign policy thinking - grouped with some of the most troubled countries and adversaries of the US.

2. It tells you just how naive and desperate the military regime in Pakistan is to confuse and believe Trump’s “pat on the back” and “favourite Field Marshal” comments as a signal for some strategic win or deepening of relations.
