Some professional news: after a wonderful year at @DSD_Kings , I’m delighted to start this September as a Lecturer at KCL @warstudies and become a part of this wonderful community of fantastic researchers, educators and people! ☺️
The democratic trajectories of India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh have been shaped in no small part by the behaviour of their respective militaries.

My book, Ascending Order, is now available in electronic and print formats, via @CUP_PoliSci. A thread here on the book, for anyone interested in rising powers, international order, hierarchy, global governance, and status in world politics.
From CMS champions #NewVoices: as protests take place in India over new recruitment processes, now is a great time to check out Dr Saawani Raje-Byrne's @saawaniraje brilliant piece on the politicisation of India's armed forces: https://t.co/t2ho4i2BG2
"Politicians have exerted increasing control over the military in India, shaping civil-military relations to their preference throughout Indian history."

There's never been a greater societal responsibility to show support for Muslims in India. No need to pontificate, no need to lecture them. Simply support them in any way you can. Some easy ways you can do this:
Next week I will be presenting on new research, currently underway, on how India shaped its military strategy in the 1999 Kargil war. Come along, give me your feedback.
In the last month, one has heard a lot about how India is dependent on Russia, Russia is dependent on China, etc. This narrative ignores the agency of major powers and the role of statecraft in world politics. My effort to inject some nuance and complexity into the conversation.
Next up, @Mukherjee_Anit and @saawaniraje examine civil-military relations in India, the challenges with the current configuration, and the agenda for reform facing the next Chief of Defence Staff.

This 14-volume set of secret intelligence documents on Mujibur Rahman for the 1947-71 period, edited by Sheikh Hasina, are quite something. They offer insight into how Pakistani agencies shadowed Mujib's movts. including visits to India (mostly Calcutta) "for medical purposes".
Hivemind, I am trying to connect to scholars from the Global South working on the politics of British imperial higher education (all corners of the British empire). I would appreciate if you could point me to scholars you know. Thanks a lot!
Space and time. The deal breakers in war. Both translated into the impact they have on the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Superb Clausewitz goes Lawrence Freedman here. Informative well beyond the realm of current affairs.
By looking at student comments on SETs we found that women are often getting judged on a radically different criteria, with particular demands for time-intensive, stereotypically feminine, emotional labour. 4/11
My sister was trapped in #Ukraine. This is a thread about her incredible journey to reach #Poland. During her escape she experienced #racism, injuries, freezing temps and sleep deprivation. Her story is only one of the hundreds of thousands of people trying to get out.
