I just had an epiphany. I often get students wishing something like 19x21 is the same as 20x20 (by +/- 1 for each term). They CAN do that, but they need to just subtract 1 at the end.
I believe in partial credit even if the work is not complete. My grading should reflect if the student is learning. If I give a student a 0 because the work is incomplete then I am telling them not to try, if they believe they can’t finish on time.
I am taking an online philosophy class this semester... 3 weeks in and I haven’t learned much of anything. Why? Because the textbook is teaching me. There is no engagement. I am bored.
@howie_hua As much as you have been influenced by other teachers, I have been influenced by you. You have changed the way I look at math lessons. I almost didn't transfer schools so that I could take math100 with you next semester. You are truly an inspiration so thank you.
