@Barney_H_Y 1) market pricing in Google’s ability to leverage distribution and get Gemini 3 in front of consumers; bet is they will switch
2) market also pricing in Google’s ability to train Gemini 3 on its own chips - TPUs are a major strategic advantage
Government just appointed a BLOCKER to run planning policy
Their new advisor on planning DEFENDS the broken system on energy infrastructure that’s led to ludicrous fish discos 🐠
She may have even helped the Vegetable Lobby wreck the Planning Bill! 👇
@rcolvile@TorstenBell Well Ed Balls suggests that Wes Streeting’s reference to kneecapping earlier in the week was an allusion to Morgan McSweeney’s Irish heritage - so maybe not as crazy a theory as it sounds!
@aswren This is how.
And there’s actually a fascinating story of how it was exploited recently to leverage an expected IPO pop by a trader without allocation: https://t.co/im0O2mrb14 The mysterious, massively lucrative, multibillion-dollar ARKK trade
@magicromil@hkanji Think about it. What kind of behaviour does it incentivise? Wouldn’t a talented founder leave right after raising their seed or Series A, before their business becomes ‘too’ valuable? Would a talented founder move here to build their high growth business?
@rcolvile@CutMyTaxUK Question is though - does that still create an incentive for high growth founders to leave before they become 'too' big or successful? As I understand the proposal, it wouldn't solve the Revolut issue and might in fact make it worse by encouraging founders to leave earlier
@rcolvile On the whole though it's an excellent piece of work and cross-party so wouldn't want this to distract. It's a much needed piece of work, kudos to all invoved.
@rcolvile@sachm0@CPSThinkTank@CenTaxUK@ASI@IPPR@NEF@jrf_uk@WeAreBrightBlue @LabourTogether @DanNeidle Surely having a rule that says "Just letting you know that if you do X in the UK we will deem disposal if you leave the UK and tax you" guarantees one thing and one thing only. People won't set up business in the UK. It's a massive disincentive to inward investment.
@rcolvile@CPSThinkTank@CenTaxUK@ASI@IPPR@NEF@jrf_uk@WeAreBrightBlue @LabourTogether @DanNeidle I’m not sure it does make sense when founders have an option to start and run their businesses from anywhere in the world. The most ambitious simply won’t start them here if they think they will be penalised on exit.
