I was only 20 years old when I got married.

One thing I’ve realised is that in our society, dating is often more accepted than marriage.

If a young couple dates for years, nobody asks many questions.

But the moment a young man says, “I want to get married,” suddenly he needs a house, a car, a bigger salary, and everything else before people believe he’s ready.

That was my reality.

When I told my family I wanted to get married, I wasn’t met with excitement.

I was met with reasons why I shouldn’t.

I was told I needed more money.

I needed a house.

I needed a car.

At one point, my father even told me that if I wanted to get married, I should first buy him a car because he needed one.

The pressure was overwhelming.

As a young Black Muslim revert, I didn’t have many people to guide me through the process.

When it came time to ask for my wife’s hand in marriage, I tried finding someone to accompany me. Nobody could.

So I went alone.

Alhamdulillah, her father welcomed me with kindness, and from that day I knew that when Allah opens a door, no one can close it.

We got married.

Then, two days later, I lost my job.

For four months I couldn’t provide financially for my wife.

Those were difficult days, but they became some of the greatest lessons of my life.

My wife worked.

She paid the rent.

She bought the groceries.

She helped build our home.

Not once did she make me feel like less of a man.

Not once did she complain.

Looking back, I realise Allah wasn’t only testing me.

He was showing me the blessing He had placed in my life.

Today, Alhamdulillah, I’m working, and my wife no longer has to carry that burden because I made a promise that if Allah gave me another opportunity, I would work hard for our family.

I’m sharing this because I know there are young Muslims, especially reverts who feel discouraged.

If your intention is sincere, don’t let people convince you that marriage is impossible.

Prepare yourself. Take responsibility. Trust Allah.

You don’t need a perfect life before you get married.

Sometimes Allah places the barakah after you take the step.

May Allah make marriage easy for every young Muslim seeking to protect their deen and build a home upon taqwa.

"THE HISTORIC HAJJ TRIP OF ALHASSAN DANTATA

The first prominent Nigerian to perform the Hajj by sea was The Emir of Katsina Muhammadu Dikko in 1921.

The second was Alhaji Alhassan Dantata, reputed to be the wealthiest man then in the West African sub-region. The richest Black man in the world today, Aliko Dangote is his great-grandson.

On 1/4/1927, Alhassan Dantata left Kano with the following entourage:

1. Abdullahi, his eldest son
2. Yusuf, his younger brother
3. Adamu Bagwanje, his in-law
4. Bashari, his in-law
5. Abubakar, his in-law
6. Barau, his in-law
7. Abdulmumin, his in-law
8. Malam Madu, his close friend
9. Malam Adhama, his close friend
10. Abubakar, his servant
11. Balarabe, his servant
12. Malam Abubakar, his teacher
13. Malam Umaru, Babban Malami na Madabo, his teacher
14. Abdullahi, representative of Emir of Kano Abdullahi Bayero
15. Malam Usman Kambari, his uncle and teacher.

The entourage left Kano by rail to Lagos, then drove to Tema, Gold Coast (Ghana).

On 7/4/1927, they left Tema and arrived Liverpool port, United Kingdom on 21/4/1927 after 14 days at sea. They were received on arrival by officials of the Department of Colonial Affairs as well as Alhaji Alhassan's business partners (London and Kano Commercial Company). They rested at a comfortable lodge at Liverpool for one day.

The team left Liverpool and arrived London on 22/4/1927. King George V, father of Queen Elizabeth the Second (the princess was only one year old then) granted them a royal reception and accommodated them at the Buckingham Palace for two days.

They left London on 24/4/1927 for Marseille, France. They rested there for several days.

They left France by sea and arrived Cairo, Egypt on 7/5/1927. The following day, they left Cairo for Port Tawfeeq, Egypt, boarded a ferry and arrived Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where they rested for two days.

On 16/5/1927, they put on their white shroud (ihram), left Jeddah for Makkah riding camels. On arrival, they performed Umrah even before lodging. An account says on sighting the Holy Ka'ba for the first time, Alhaji Alhassan broke into tears of joy, having fulfilled his life's ambition.

He donated a substantial amount of money to the Saudi authorities to assist in maintaining the Holy Mosque. He also made a grant to AIN ZUBAIDA, a charitable organization responsible for supplying drinking water to pilgrims and helping the needy.

After completing their Umrah and resting for 15 days at Makkah, they left for Madinah, a journey that took them two days. They visited the Holy Prophet's Mosque for one week, then returned to Makkah to await the time for the Hajj proper.

After completing the Hajj, Alhaji Alhassan asked for a list of all Nigerian pilgrims who had no means of returning home. 430 stranded pilgrims were identified and he paid for the passage of all of them.

The entourage returned to Madinah where Alhaji Alhassan assembled teachers and scholars at the Holy Prophet's Mosque for fervent prayers and Quranic recitation, after which he distributed charity to the needy. They left Madinah for Jeddah.

On 25/6/1927, they bade farewell to Saudi Arabia, left Jeddah by ferry to Port Tawfeeq, Egypt then drove to Alexandria in North Egypt. Then they left by sea to Marseille, France and proceeded to Liverpool, UK where they stayed for nine days conducting business transactions.

On 20/7/1927, the pilgrims left Liverpool and arrived Lagos, Nigeria on 5/8/1927, after 16 days at sea. They rested a few days there.

The entourage arrived Kano by train safely on 11/8/1927, concluding a journey of faith they started from 1/4/1927 to 11/8/1927 (131 days). In today's parlance, one would say they traversed Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Atlantic Ocean, Canary Islands (Spain), Madeira (Portugal), UK, English Channel, France, Egypt, Red Sea, Saudi Arabia (a minimum of 10 countries & 3 seas).

May Allah have accepted their gigantic sacrifice by rewarding them with al-Firdaus, along with us too, amin."

CDCFIB ANNOUNCES NEXT STAGE OF 2024/2025 RECRUITMENT EXERCISE

Earlier today, the Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Maj. Gen A M Jibril (Rtd), represented the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, at the Headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Sauka, Abuja, during the celebration of two years of dedicated service by the NSCDC Mining Marshals and the commissioning of eight operational gun trucks by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake.

Speaking at the event, Maj Gen. Jibril conveyed the commitment of the Ministry of Interior to strengthening collaboration with the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and other relevant stakeholders to safeguard Nigeria’s solid mineral resources and enhance national security.

He assured the Minister of Solid Minerals Development of the Ministry of Interior’s readiness to work closely with all security agencies to combat illegal mining activities and protect the nation’s economic assets.

In his remarks, Dr. Dele Alake reiterated the commitment of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to deploying all necessary measures to eliminate illegal mining and other acts of sabotage within the mining sector. He noted that securing Nigeria’s mineral resources remains a critical component of the government’s strategy for economic growth, revenue generation, and sustainable national development.

The event highlighted the achievements of the NSCDC Mining Marshals over the past two years and underscored the Federal Government’s determination to strengthen the protection of Nigeria’s solid mineral resources.

It is with profound sadness that I received the news of the passing of Alhaji Mukhtar Isyaku Kura (Tpl.).

Alhaji Mukhtar was a dedicated public servant who served meritoriously as Commissioner and later as Managing Director of the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA) during my administration. He was also a committed and respected leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kura Local Government Area.

May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Jannatul Firdaus, and comfort his family, and all those who mourn him. Ameen. - RMK

We tracked the Sokoto Badagry Super-Highway from both ends this month, the Lagos axis and Sokoto axis.

On the Lagos end, the project is currently within Ogun State, stretching from Diya Gate, OPIC Estate, Agbara to Iyana Idoye, Lusada. Sparse work was observed at Odugbe in Lusada, Ado Odo/Ota LGA. The project terminated at Phase 4, Atan with only one side of the road under construction by Hitech Construction Company Limited.

At the Sokoto end in Illela LGA, work was ongoing, bush clearing, sand filling, and site preparation. On the section towards Katami, Silame LGA, Sokoto and in Kebbi State, some portions have been completed with concrete paving and solar lighting installed. Progress is uneven and slow.

Now here is what has been committed on paper, FEC has approved contracts worth N2.36tn for the highway since 2024, (N947bn for Kebbi single carriageway in August 2024, N456bn for Sokoto 120km section in October 2024 flagoff and N961bn for Kebbi second carriageway for August 2025).

Just 3 days ago, President @officialABAT sent a fresh request to the Senate for a $516.3m loan from Deutsche Bank, the largest single external injection into this project yet.

But the Minister of Works, @realdaveumahi admitted in February 2026 that only N210.31bn, 9.7% of expected 2025 capital releases have actually been paid to contractors. Contractors across @FMWNIG projects are owed N2.2tn for advanced work. Commitments on paper.

The total cost of this 1,068km highway alone is projected at over
N6.5tn, borrowed money, at a time when Nigeria already spends substantial part of her total revenue servicing existing debt.

We urgently call on the Federal Government of Nigeria and @nassnigeria to;

- Properly scrutinize every new loan.
- Release funds owed to contractors.
- Publish quarterly disbursement reports for this highways.
- Scrutinise the $516.3m Deutsche Bank loan terms transparently.

Citizens deserve infrastructure and fiscal accountability, not one without the other.
