Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Vice President Prof Salim Engineer expresses deep anguish over Hyderabad fire tragedy

The Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Prof Salim Engineer, expressed profound sorrow over the devastating fire near Charminar, Hyderabad, that claimed 17 lives, including 8 innocent children.

In a statement to the media, the JIH Vice President said, “We are deeply grieved by the tragic incident in Gulzar House where 17 people, among them several toddlers and elderly citizens, lost their lives due to a fire in a residential-cum-commercial building. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families. We also pray for the swift recovery of those injured and undergoing treatment. We urge the Telangana government and civic authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent inquiry and take stern action against those responsible for safety violations.”

Prof Salim Engineer added, “It is extremely distressing that fire safety norms continue to be neglected. The reported delay in fire response, lack of access to narrow lanes, and the enormity of the loss reflect systemic negligence. While authorities have deployed modern equipment like skylifts and fire robots, the scale of loss demands a serious nationwide audit of fire preparedness in congested urban zones. We reiterate our demand for a national commission led by a former DG – Fire Services & Civil Defence to audit existing fire infrastructure, recommend upgrades, and push for strict implementation of safety norms across all residential and commercial establishments."
