- @HESharifShAhmed didn’t lead Somalia’s constitutional process. He was just a signature-bearer, blindly approving what Faroole drafted and Garowe packaged. He had no idea what he was enabling then, and he still doesn’t. History will remember him as a man applauding decisions he didn’t make, thinking he was a statesman.

Tension continues to rise between Somalia and Ethiopia over the controversial MoU Ethiopia signed with Somaliland on Jan 1.

Somalia’s Ambassador to the UN @AbukarOsman1 this week said Ethiopia’s move is “unilaterally altering borders and territorial integrity of Somalia,” and “fuelling a cycle of distrust and hostility between the Somali and Ethiopian people.”

Ethiopia’s mission at the UN responded, and said it’s “disappointed” with the statement made by @AbukarOsman1.

Ethiopia said the MoU “should be seen as a win-win partnership that will secure Ethiopia a sea outlet.”

The statement further said, “Ethiopia has no intention of harming anyone’s interest.”

The Somali mission responded to the response, and said Ethiopia’s statement “lack factual accuracy.”

“The absurd assertion that the Ethiopia’s illegal annexation attempt of a Somali territory is a win-win partnership reinforces Ethiopia’s misguided plan to infringe on Somalia’s territorial integrity and jeopardise regional and global security.”
