Dammy Feyide returned to Nigeria for her NYSC programme. She had intended to do the compulsory one year national service and then return to be with her family abroad.
The universe had a different plan. Because during her service year, she started a creative school that was designed for children from marginalised backgrounds, especially children from correctional and remand homes.
That project became a school in 2021. Dammy now runs a government registered private school - except that this private school is completely free for all the students, down to their uniforms, books - FREE everything!
A friend told me about the school. I then connected with Dammy and eventually visited the kids today with @elijaholowe. It turns out this isn’t just free education, it’s intentionally qualitative too.
Apart from scholars that I help to pay their tuition, I have been privileged to support a number of organisations who are focused on helping people from marginalised backgrounds attend/stay in school.
However, what I love about the LISA model is that it is able to design a system that is intended for these children. It has an ecosystem for that purpose.
I have now adopted LISA. A good friend donated N2m today, which for me looked like a good start. I will be posting and sharing about LISA academy from time to time.
