The Nothing Phone (1) has been my primary device for about 400 days now and it does show some signs of aging. But weirdly enough, a few things have aged way faster than they should have while in some of the aspects it hasn’t aged at all.

Long fun story..
After completing her BTech from NIT Surathkal Anjali moved to Bangalore to join Coinbase.
Anjali met Rahul in the payments team.
Rahul is an ex Razorpay Sr. SDE and worked at Amazon, GS.
He is well aware of Indian politics and banking systems because of his past experiences.
Coinbase has just started ops in India and moving at lightning speed.
IndusInd Bank is CB’s banking partner.
Rahul assigned Anjali the task of integrating IndusInd bank payment APIs into CB.
Anjali quickly wrote the frontend, middleware and the integration layers and raised the PR.
Anjali codes:
1/ A Payments class and IndusInd Bank class.
2/ Payment class inherits IndusInd Bank.
3/ Process Payment method accepts payments.
Anjali did a fantastic work in a day.
Rahul to Anjali, “Fantastic work Anjali! But do you read news?”
Anjali, “Yes Rahul, why?”
Rahul, “Finance Ministry is undergoing lot of changes and crypto might be on fire”
Anjali, “But Crypto is at all time high, what can happen?”
Rahul “ 2019 same thing happened, Mr. Arun Jaitley banned crypto. My friend Sagar lost 8 Lacs because all bank transactions where banned”
Anjali, “ Really? So why are you telling me this? “
Rahul, “Because you can’t be sure what can happen to IndusInd Bank’s regulations and we might have to change to PayTM payments bank or any other bank”
Anjali is confused and asks, “What do I do then?”
Rahul, “Nothing just recollect Dependency Inversion Principle”
Dependency Inversion Principle's main idea is
No concrete class should depend on another concrete class.
Concrete class should depend on abstract classes or interfaces for consistency.
Rahul, “So just create an interface that Payments and all other Banking classes implements, with a common method processPayments.
This will decouple the banks from our Payments systems.
If time comes we can quickly onboard another Bank”
Anjali, “Wow Rahul, the theory taught in colleges are not at all useless.
We just don’t know the context to use them. Are you from MIT?”
Rahul, “They call it Tier 3, I call it my favourite place on earth.”

Things to consider:
1/ Dependency Inversion should be used with Interface Segregation Principle
2/ In large distributed systems this same concept is applied over component level as well
3/ Financial systems runs on regulation, having some domain expertise is required
4/ You know what happened to CoinSwitch and CoinDCX?
4/ Rahul and Anjali are fictional characters
5/ Don’t stop here, go and read technical blogs, papers and videos of other creators to implement it IRL
6/ There are lot of other ways to tackle the same problem but all of them will be reactive. This is proactive.
