The mission also carried Cosmos Diamonds’ Cosmic Bloom diamond, along with micro-artist Ajay Kumar’s extraordinary creations—a microscopic 18K gold rocket and intricate micro-sculptures honouring Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Sir C.V. Raman. A tribute to India’s scientific legacy, carried into space alongside the mission.

Today

CRED is ready for its next phase. I am stepping back and @miten steps in as interim CEO, partnered with an incredibly talented team. He has been heading strategy and finance and suffering me since 2020. I’m stepping away from the operating role and will continue as a shareholder. My commitment doesn’t change. Just the role.

Extremely grateful to our members, partners, regulators, and investors who made this possible. And to our board, Shailendra, Micky, Saurabh for their extraordinary conviction.

Team CRED, I’ll still expect you to be a 10x version of yourselves.

As for me, I’ll be joining Meta to lead WhatsApp globally.

While it’s come very far, the delta between WhatsApp today and its full potential is massive. I look forward to working with Mark, Chris, and the leadership across Meta for the next step in WhatsApp’s journey. Deeply shocking to read this official US statement, which contains absolutely no expression of regret or condolence for the loss of innocent Indian lives. How can a “friend” and strategic partner be so deeply insensitive?

Why couldn’t a non-compliant commercial vessel have been stopped using other, non-lethal means? Is it not possible to disable a ship's propulsion or steering without firing missiles targeted to kill civilian crew members?

Practically every merchant ship navigating these crucial waters has Indian crew on board. Are they all considered fair game for US missiles now?

This approach is unacceptable and I hope @DrSJaishankar had said so to @marcorubio.

I want to give a heartfelt thank you to the entire Indian and Hindu community, both here in America and around the world.

A few months ago, I began learning about India, its culture, and its people. That journey unexpectedly led me into some heated online debates with certain groups who were attacking Indians and Hindus. I defended you, and in response, they attacked me by questioning my American roots, claiming only certain people were "real" Americans.

What they didn't know is that by coming after me, they actually did me a huge favor. In the middle of all that, a kind person from the Indian community reached out and shared detailed information about my family history. Through his research, I discovered that my Wheless ancestors arrived in Virginia in the early 1700s, well before the American Revolution.

That means I am, in fact, a Heritage American myself. The very people who were trying to exclude Indians from America actually helped me prove my own deep roots here. I found out more about my family's history in the past week than I had learned in over sixty years.

So to every Indian and Hindu who has shown me kindness, thank you. You've helped me during a difficult time, and you unknowingly led me to discover my own heritage.

And to one person in particular, Modern Preacher (@chanakyaspeakss), thank you for taking the time to dig up important information and share it with me, including this photo. Your kindness and research meant more to me than you'll ever know.

FOR 15 YEARS, while most people escaped the summer heat, Harpal Singh Pali drove a tractor-tanker deep into the burning Shivalik Hills every alternate day carrying WATER for wild animals. As lakes dried and forests cracked under extreme heat, deer, wild boars, blue bulls, and peacocks began waiting for one sound — the arrival of his tractor.

Using his OWN MONEY, without donations or government support, Pali created and refilled 25 water holes across nearly 5 kilometres of forest so animals would not enter villages searching for water. Fuel prices increased. Maintenance costs rose. Still, he never stopped. He even dedicates 10% of his income to wildlife welfare.

His name was Rajan.

He was a final year engineering student at the Regional Engineering College in Calicut, Kerala. His father, T V Eachara Varier, was a Hindi professor at the Government Arts and Science College in the same city.

On the morning of March 1 1976 the police came to the college campus and took Rajan away.

India was under Emergency. Civil liberties were suspended. Courts had effectively turned away.

His father found out the next day from the college principal.

He went to every police station in the district. No one admitted to having his son.

He met the Home Minister of Kerala, K Karunakaran, directly.

He sent petitions to the Home Secretary of the Government of Kerala three times. Not a single reply or acknowledgement came.

He wrote to the President of India and the Home Minister of the central government, with copies to every Member of Parliament from Kerala.

Nothing.

What Eachara Varier did not know at the time was that his son had been taken to an illegal police interrogation camp at Kakkayam.

He was tortured.

A practice called uruttal was used, where a heavy wooden log is rolled over the body of the victim.

Rajan died from his injuries. His body was disposed of by the police and was never found.

When the Emergency ended in 1977 Eachara Varier filed a habeas corpus petition in the Kerala High Court.

It was the first such petition filed in Kerala after the Emergency.

He did it without legal training, without political backing, without money.

He had spent everything searching for his son.

The court case slowly unravelled the truth.

It forced K Karunakaran to resign as Chief Minister of Kerala in 1978 when the adverse judgment came.

Rajan’s mother became mentally unstable from the grief. She died in 2000 still not knowing where her son was.

Eachara Varier wrote his memoir, Memories of a Father, which won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2004.

In its final lines he wrote, “I don’t close the door. Let the rain lash inside and drench me. Let at least my invisible son know that his father never shut the door.”

He died on April 13 2006. He never found his son’s body.

Rajan was picked up from his college campus on a March morning in 1976. He was never seen again.
