There is something to this position as regards the trend of the philosophical tradition in Sunni Islam in the late modern period. But prior to that the philosophical tradition was alive and well. An excellent example (among many others) is Mulla Fenarī (d. 1431) whose Miṣbāh al-Uns is a masterpiece weaving together aspects of Akbarian, Avicennan, and Kalām traditions. His al-Fawāʾid al-Fanāriyya is one of the most famous commentaries on Athīr al-Dīn al-Abharī's book of logic, Īsāghūjī (al-Risālat al-Athīriyya ), and was taught in Ottoman madrasas until recent times.
