Police have arrested the OCS of Lumakanda Police Station for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old student, who was also the daughter of his friend.

Chief Inspector Wycliffe Kwendo had allegedly been having a secret affair with his friend’s daughter. On the day he was found, he had lied to the parents of the student that there would be a multi-agency raid in the area and that the parents should not sleep at their home. The parents therefore booked a guest room in a nearby centre.

The mother, being suspicious, convinced her husband to return home and check what was happening, only to find the OCS sleeping with their daughter.

The mother collected the used condom and wanted to use it as evidence, but the officer allegedly threatened them with his gun and took the condom.

The OCS then allegedly tried to bribe them with KSh 20,000 to keep quiet, but they refused.

They reported the matter to the same police station, and the scene was visited by the Deputy OCS and other officers. The victim was then taken to hospital for treatment.

Images and stories from that time are a painful part of Congo’s history. But did the world ever truly address the suffering of the Congolese people?

Were victims given justice, descendants meaningful reparations, and the Congo's full story remembered as it deserves?

History is not meant to reopen hatred. It is meant to preserve truth, remember the victims, and help humanity avoid repeating its darkest chapters.
