The call to integrate gender analysis in legislative scrutiny reinforces the need for laws, budgets, and policies that are equitable, inclusive, and responsive to the realities of all citizens.

Gender equality is a core priority for Finland 🇫🇮 - in our foreign policy and at home. We support women's rights and participation in every level of society: political decision making, peace processes, entrepreneurship and more. A woman's place is everywhere!
Happy Women's Day!
Women’s rights are human rights. And investing in women and girls is one of the surest ways to make the world a better place
Yet, progress on gender equality has been slow and uneven.
It’s time to take action and deliver the equality our world so sorely needs.
Women and girls are changing the world.
Let’s change the world for women and girls.
Japan has unveiled grocery bags made from potato starch that disappear safely in water instead of lingering like plastic.
These bags are sturdy enough for everyday shopping, yet they dissolve naturally without leaving harmful residue behind.
Unlike conventional plastic, they don’t survive for centuries in the ocean or threaten marine ecosystems.
Even in cold water, the material breaks down completely, and if swallowed by fish or turtles, it dissolves without causing damage.
With millions of tons of plastic entering the seas each year, this kind of innovation could significantly cut pollution.
Japan’s solution shows how simple, practical design can make sustainable habits part of daily life.

Earlier today, key education stakeholders from North Eastern Kenya convened to take stock of the state of education in the region, the existing historical and current challenges and chart a way forward on priority interventions.
The meeting provided a platform for candid and solution-oriented deliberations, with particular focus on the region’s preparedness for the Competency-Based Education (#CBE) transition, learner enrolment trends, retention, infrastructure and human resource gaps, potential opportunities and the integrity of national examinations. Participants acknowledged the urgent need for evidence-informed interventions and resolved to commission a focused study to document the key structural, systemic, and socio-cultural challenges affecting education outcomes in the region.
In addition, the stakeholders agreed to convene a major regional education symposium in mid-April, to be hosted in one of the North Eastern counties. The symposium will bring together policymakers, education practitioners, community leaders, and development partners to validate findings, build consensus, and develop a practical reform roadmap. A multi-sectoral steering committee was constituted to spearhead planning, resource mobilization, and overall coordination of the initiative.
Addressing the participants, Garissa Township MP, Hon. Rtd. Major Dekow Barrow @DekowMajor , spoke extensively on the existential threat posed by examination malpractice, warning that it undermines credibility, erodes merit, and compromises the long-term prospects of learners and the region. He also highlighted the impact of irregular settlements and unplanned urban growth on access, infrastructure planning, and the overall quality of education.
The meeting drew participation from prominent leaders, including former MPs Hon. Mohamed Elmi, Hon. Mohamed Maalim Mohamud (Mumad), Hon. Abdirahman Ali Hassan (Olow), Hon. Mohamed Hussein (Qaras), and Hon. Abdullahi Diriye (Dakalow). Also, in attendance were Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) CEO Dr. @iofarah Idle Omar and #NACONEK CEO Mr. Harun Yussuf, alongside other regional education stakeholders.
The convening was led by Horn-Afric, a regional policy think tank, in partnership with FCDC and the North Eastern Youth Development (@NEYDKenya ), underscoring a shared commitment to safeguarding and advancing education standards in the region.
How can we ensure progress not only lasts but also reaches further?
Sustainability keeps the impact alive, and scalability spreads it wider.
TGG-ALM is taking both seriously, by scaling what works: embedding progress in policies, strengthening communities, and fostering cross-border collaboration.
As we share knowledge, build partnerships, and secure political support, we’re making sure that the anti-FGM movement is both lasting and far-reaching.

Ending FGM requires courage, not just to act, but to reflect.
At our regional forum, we made space for the harder conversations: the approaches that didn’t deliver impact, the assumptions that needed challenging, and the practices we must rethink if we are serious about lasting change.
As a programme we acknowledge that, repeating what doesn’t work doesn’t move the movement forward. Learning does.
Here’s a summary of what we know we must do differently.
