I had the incredible honor and privilege of meeting one of the most inspiring leaders of our generation, President Barack Obama, alongside my fellow Obama Scholars! What a blessing! Meeting him was truly a dream come true for me.
As he entered the room, he surprised me in a way I could have never imagined โ He said, "I know you, you're Samson from Uganda." and he firmly shook my hand.
During our conversation, he emphasized the importance of not allowing limited resources to constrain our work in civil society. Instead, he encouraged us to creatively leverage the resources at our disposal to effect change in our communities. He highlighted an example of how we use simple technologies at @YiyaSolutions to solve a big educational problem in Uganda.
Meeting President Obama left me feeling more empowered in my leadership journey! I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the team at the @ObamaFoundation Scholars Program for making this incredible experience possible. Special thanks to the Obama Foundation photographer for capturing this memorable moment!

Listening to President Obama is always a breath of fresh air.
His message on the shared values that sustain democracy is worth hearing! It's also timely as Uganda lately faces important questions about leadership & democracy
Congratulations @ObamaFoundation

Uganda's Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba says he's now been authorised by his father, President Yoweri Museveni, to shut down @DailyMonitor and @ntvuganda over claims that they have over time mocked the family's 40-year.
He's also threatened to have his political outfit, Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), forcefully take over as Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LoP), where his father's political party, National Resistance Movement (NRM), commands the majority.
He has further threatened to arrest current LoP Joel Ssenyonyi and former MP Ssemujju Nganda for criticising his modus operandi when he boasted over the kidnap and torture of former Kampala mayor Erias Lukwago.
Ssemujju and Ssenyonyi said the current political crisis in the country mirrors the dictatorial era of Idi Amin Dada, when state abduction and killing of political opponents, silencing the media, breakdown of institutional governance and independence - especially parliament and judiciary, was the order of the day.
More than 40 years ago, I arrived in Chicago in search of an idea. I was a young man looking for purpose, who believed deeply in America, was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement, and wanted to be a part of something larger. The America I believed in was one where everyone has opportunity, everyone is seen, everyone belongsโbecause that was an America that had a place for me, too.
It was great reconnecting with our alumni tonight!
Michelle and I will always be grateful for the chance to work side-by-side with so many brilliant, selfless people who believed in something bigger than themselves.
