@BBCNewsnight While the Novak case with its tragic outcome is horrendous, it has nothing to do with the ethnicities of those involved. There are many more cases where officers make assumptions of guilt based on what is reported to them. Most, fortunately, don't have a deadly outcome.

@Brexitbuddy1@PippaCrerar It clearly is illegal under the UN charter. Art 2(4). They will try to justify it under "humanitarian grounds" but that exception can't really be used for what they are doing, in my view. Plus we all know that neither Trump nor Israel are doing this to save the Iraqi people.
@sofiafonsoferre What they are doing is no different to people who canvass for political parties. You are the one out of order here for trying to stoke the fears of local Jewish people and the divides that exist already.
@StufferSuitcase@Mr_Cau5e@ZackPolanski I know, it's bad. Hope someone much cleverer than me will get into government and find a way. But willing to give up a bit more of my earnings if that happens.
@StufferSuitcase@Mr_Cau5e@ZackPolanski Yeah, I totally get that. But if we don't things won't change. And, I guess, that then leaves us to decide if we want things to get better here in the UK. I wouldn't mind paying more if we can become like Switzerland.
@StufferSuitcase@Mr_Cau5e@ZackPolanski Sure, the tax system and the welfare system could do with an overhaul to make it more effective. But the UK is not the highest tax rate country. Ingrained poverty is a driver for low achievement. All reversible, but it needs time, of course. If we want change we have to put in.
@StufferSuitcase@Mr_Cau5e@ZackPolanski So, I take it, you would benefit from improved living standards and aren't one of those lucky enough to have more than they can make use of.
@StufferSuitcase@Mr_Cau5e@ZackPolanski Here is how it works: everybody pays a bit and everybody's living standards improve. It's quite simple, really. If you don't think you would benefit from improved living standards you must be very lucky. But in that case you would probably be able to afford a bit of philanthropy.
@StufferSuitcase@Mr_Cau5e@ZackPolanski Not my experience. Good living standards for everyone creates overall prosperity. Living in a place that isn't run down and has good public services appeals to most.
@Mr_Cau5e@ZackPolanski Vienna has been socialist governed since 1945 and still is. Not sure why rent controls were somewhat relaxed, haven't lived there for some time. But rent controls still exist and the overall housing situation, and living standards, are a lot better than in the UK.
@Mr_Cau5e@ZackPolanski Yeah, perhaps. Goes to show that socialist governing systems actually work for the population. So what do you think would be a viable solution for the UK? In the longer term obviously lots more housing is needed. But in the short term?
@Mr_Cau5e@ZackPolanski It's been working really well in Vienna for decades. Then it was relaxed and now there is a housing crisis, not because there isn't enough housing, but because rents are unaffordable.
@UrbanOutfit_O Still haven't been able to resolve things with Urban UK. If I send you my details, will you be able to help? It was my daughter's order btw, so you would probably need her details?
Nightmare customer service from @UrbanOutfitters! They cancel your order, promise you refund within 5 working days and then send you on an AI generated chat response roundabout when the refund doesn't arrive. Never again!
@lau36532@BBCPolitics Policies like that have unintended consequences. Do that and watch the homeless population double in size. I don't doubt that what you say may apply to some. But those that are genuinely trying and aren't lucky enough to have well off parents will be even less able to succeed.
