129 years ago this day - '22 June 1897' in Pune... The Chapekar brothers assassinated British Plague Commissioner Rand, as he was traveling back late evening, from the Governor's House at Ganeshkhind.

Rand's efforts to control plague were considered tyrannical and brutal by many in Pune, including by senior leaders like Bal Gangadhar Tilak.

The three brothers (Damodar, Balkrishna and Vasudeo) were later arrested and hanged by the British authorities.

The sacrifice for the motherland, by these three young revolutionaries inspired many, including Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (who was a high-school student then).

The family in India is struggling to obtain timely and accurate information regarding his medical condition and treatment. While he has reportedly been admitted to a government hospital, communication from the company has been extremely limited

His brother, serving in the Indian Army, is making all possible efforts to help the family reach Saudi Arabia and obtain information about his condition.
