I think its very easy to slip into being "always on" as we use social media regularly. I think the most important thing is ensuring you find a balance between your online life and your real life. #315WeekTwelve
Great point! I often see TikTok "gossip" accounts that essentially just "expose" people. The internet is a great way to spread information, but also a great way to spread MISinformation.
I agree about the breaks! I've learned that when I switch out watching a TV show for reading a book I feel so much calmer going about my day to day activities.
Always being on our phone/ social media has caused our attention span to extremely decrease. My brain is accustomed to reading short twitter threads, TikTok/Instagram captions, and short informal articles. #315WeekTwelve#WritingTheInternet#FutureofWriting
I found it surprisingly easy to edit an article on Wikipedia! I love how accessible it is, however it does make me think of how easily people can add false information on important articles 🤔🤔 #ccom315#315wikichallenge
I think that's a great idea! Wikipedia really allows us to find more sources that can be used as more reliable ones for our academic papers #315WeekEleven
One of the biggest pros of Wikipedia is how accessible it is to everyone, and the ease by which you can get information. It's the best source for people trying to understand the basics of any topic. #315WeekEleven
I did the Factitious quiz and did quite well on it. I think the key to finding out if a news article is real or fake is to look at the source it’s from. How did you guys do? #315fakenews
Me too! I do think however that everyone thinks fake news has to be extremely exaggerated but in reality it can be news that sounds real but is slightly skewed. I think that’s the type of fake news that is most dangerous because it’s hardest to differentiate #315fakenews
I was first exposed to the notion of "fake news" through the 2016 American presidential election. Unsurprisingly, the person I most heavily associate with fake news is: Donald Trump🤢🤮#315fakenews
I believe in order to really make a difference through online activism there have to be stronger individual actions to become more informed, otherwise social media will continue to just be a collection of mass information that may not be accurate or helpful.
I find the concept of intent vs. effect is extremely interesting in terms of online activism. The idea of “slacktivism” ties really well with the concept as well. I think often times when people are reposting infographics, black squares and more #315WeekEight
on their social media they do so with the intention of providing information and being helpful. However most times this is done without doing external research and finding credible sources. This in turn can play into the dialogue of #slacktivism.
For my open letter blog post I think I would like to write a letter to everyone starting university this year. It would be a form of advice with things I wish I knew when I was starting out! #ccom315#316WeekSeven
This Forbes article is an interesting read when thinking about the impact working from home has on our mental health. https://t.co/gjDvqXSFmI #315WeekSix
One main aspect that has emerged out from the pandemic has been the shift to online learning and working from home. Whilst this is confident, I think we often forget when to stop working and our work-life balance has become very bad. #315WeekSix
