I find the concept of intent vs. effect is extremely interesting in terms of online activism. The idea of “slacktivism” ties really well with the concept as well. I think often times when people are reposting infographics, black squares and more #315WeekEight
(2/2) full of black screens for Blackout Tuesday in solidarity with black police-violence victims, but no further discussion is had or action is made. Spreading awareness on the internet can be powerful and effective, but the 'slack' enters when it stops there. #315WeekEight
I'm going to be writing about the digital phenomenon of Euphoria Sunday that took place during the second season! Euphoria stans - stay tuned! #315weekeight #315pitches
#315pitches Going to write about the phenomenon that is #deuxmoi for my digital culture backgrounder. Gossip lovers this one’s for you! #315WeekEight
#315WeekEight Instagram blackout squares are a really interesting example. In a lot of cases, people who posted the squares deleted them after realizing they were harmful. How individuals chose to handle the aftermath of their posts says more than the postings themselves.
#315WeekEight The relationship between Poell and van Dijck’s ideas about emotion evoking messaging w/ mass culture makes me wonder about the distinction between feeling like you can make a difference and simply feeling

Online activism is an important part of Social Media, and in my opinion is one of the best use cases of Social Media. In recent history, we've seen social media based activism become more and more prevalent, and we've seen it make change.
Thinking about exploring the #ThatGirl for my Digital Culture Backgrounder blog post 3: the latest viral trend on social media platforms 💬 Thoughts? #315pitches #315WeekEight
(3/3) This reminds me of last weeks Wired article, talking about digital blackface and the origins of popular internet trends. #ccom315 #315WeekEight
still stumped about my open letter...loved the examples tho, very meta #ccom315 #315WeekEight #315pitches
I personally use my Instagram story to share educational content about causes that are important to me or people I care about because for me activism starts with education #315weekeight
Does the silence mean the indifference (which makes them part of the problem) or lack of education on the topic (as you stated in your thread)? As you said, we tend to share what we relate too because we know more about these topics 🤔 I’d love to have your opinion #315weekeight
In my opinion, you need to be an activist for any and all minorities/struggling groups or you essentially become part of the bigger problem.
This problem is similar to what is called a « conversation rate » in business. The number of people who were engaged with your content and actually completed the desired goal. Could be really interesting to estimate it so the organizer could adjust the audience size #315weekeight
I agree so much with this one. I’ve been quite vocal against racism and discrimination for years now and my friends always brushed off what I had to say because they didn’t relate but they were so quick to post a black square on their Instagram 🤦🏽♀️ #315weekeight
Heyoo. Here's my final blog post for anyone interested in Jordan Peterson :o Hope everyone has a great rest of the summer! https://t.co/qgufr2gNjN #ccom315 #315WeekEight
One interesting pattern I noticed when I saw few videos w.r.t the #FutureOfWriting is that everyone believed that writing on the Internet is slowly evolving and changing and it will never be the same! #ccom315 #315WeekEight
this turned into a trip down memory lane of all the dog photos I've ever taken... and there are so many more! #315WeekEight

I find the song “Sick Boy” by @TheChainsmokers shows what writing the internet can be like. It arguably touches on projection, identity issues, narcissism, superficiality, search for validation, competition, obsession, anxiety, desensitization, indifference #315GIFs #315weekeight

The one thing that was persistent in most of the videos was the fact that writing will be a lot more succinct. We already see that will platforms such as twitter which give us a strict character limit #futureofwriting #315WeekEight
