The scene outside the main Education Department building this morning as workers cleared out their offices (as captured by my talented colleague Josh Morgan):
So Columbia gave in Trump's demands and sweetened the deal, pledging to advance its Tel Aviv Center, among other changes. @byjoshmoody has the initial details.

I was in the East Room as President Trump signed an executive order directing Ed Secretary Linda McMahon to dismantle the Department of Education just minutes ago. The department can not, however, be fully abolished without Congressional action.

Yesterday @usedgov launched civil rights investigations into 51 colleges over race-conscious programming.
Most are based on partnerships with a small diversity recruiting network for business PhDs--which has been in conservatives' crosshairs before.

I joined @CBSEveningNews last night to talk about the devastating layoffs at the Education Department and how the shockwaves will reach students and families
Did my best to summarize the sweeping effects in a few minutes -- give it a watch: https://t.co/nd4OstlHAr
#HigherEducation people: Before we let @dougledIHE walk out the door, I'm going to turn the tables and put him in the interview hot seat for our final podcast. I'm crowd sourcing some questions. Post here or DM me what you'd like me to ask him!
Well!! We did it!! OSDE (@RyanWaltersSupt and @DanIsett) settled..we will be let into meetings and pressers and more. @InstFreeSpeech and their team along with KFOR and my news team was AMAZING!
Here’s a 🧵 @kfor
I’m back at Howard today awaiting Harris’ concession speech.
Students, faculty and alums are back in far smaller numbers. Last nights fanfare has given way to milling and hushed conversation.
Also, resilience. Heard one alum say she’d “wear her AKA hat with head held high.”
@JessicaEBlake and I are at @HowardU tonight for the Harris watch party—the first ever hosted on a college campus.
As early results trickle in, the homecoming vibes at the HBCU are still going strong for now.
I talked to Bridnetta Edwards (L) and Portia Wenze-Danley (R), two alumnae who graduated with Harris in ‘86. Edwards, also a former Howard staff member, said the number of applicants spiked when Harris became VP and she only expects them to skyrocket if she becomes President.
I’m live at @GallaudetU for their election watch party for @insidehighered
Organizers say one of the goals of tonight is to provide analysis of and conversation around the election in ASL, including covering election vocab like “blue wall” and “battleground states”
Visiting campuses in Philly today to talk with students about what’s motivating them to vote in the battleground state. There are political ads on almost every lamp post around Penn and Drexel.
I’m at @TowsonU today talking to voters about what brought them out to the polls today. One first-time voter & freshman economics major says he’s voting Harris in part because he prefers her economic policies.
HIGHER ED HIVE MIND: I'm trying to assemble list of faculty, researchers & teaching grad students who've been investigated, suspended, fired or arrested for their speech, teaching or protests about Palestine, Israel, Zionism etc since Oct. 7. Please name below any you've heard of
