DMK speaking about democracy, political morality and ideology is one of the biggest ironies in Tamil Nadu politics.

In the 2006 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, DMK alone won only 96 seats far below the majority mark of 118. Yet they formed a minority government through alliance arithmetic, external support, political bargaining and later strengthened their numbers through shifting loyalties and political realignments.

The same party that today cries about defections and political ethics survived for years through power equations, pressure politics, alliance dependency, and backdoor political management.

Over time, the government’s strength increased as several MLAs and leaders from rival camps shifted sides or aligned with DMK for political survival and power benefits. Ironically, at one stage, nearly 23 ministers under DMK had AIADMK roots proving ideology was secondary while power was the real objective.

This is also the same DMK surrounded for decades by:
• 2G spectrum scam allegations
• Corruption and disproportionate wealth cases
• Land-grab accusations
• Tender irregularity complaints
• Abuse of power allegations against ministers
• Dynasty politics controlling governance
• Cash-for-influence political culture

Yet today they act as if they alone are guardians of democracy.

In 2021, DMK again weaponized emotions to capture power:
• NEET fear politics
• AIIMS issue exploitation
• Anti-Hindi propaganda
• Anti-BJP fear campaigns
• “We will abolish NEET” promises
• “Congress will remove NEET once they rule Delhi” assurances

Students and parents were emotionally manipulated while constitutional and legal realities were deliberately hidden.

After coming to power:
• NEET still exists
• Students still write the same exam
• AIIMS remains incomplete
• Congress politically distanced itself
• Every promise became an excuse

Instead of admitting they misled people, DMK blamed Delhi, the Governor, the courts and the Union Government.

DMK’s political history was never about clean governance.
It was about alliance survival, narrative control, emotional propaganda, opportunistic defections, corruption-tainted politics, and retaining power at any cost.

Tamil Nadu deserves accountability and honest governance not dynasty politics, manipulation, and corruption hidden behind carefully crafted political drama.
