a university undergrad made hash tables faster and broke 40-year-old belief 🤯
for 40 years, it was believed that we cannot have better than O(n) operation for hash table worst case inserts and searches if it uses open addressing - for the hash index, look linearly until you find your element or an empty slot to insert.
the paper published last month showed that we can construct a hash table that achieves far better search complexities (both average and worst-case) of (log n)^2 - better than n.
I have not yet read the paper, but if you are interested in digging deeper, I have linked the paper and the write-up in a subsequent tweet.
in case you are interested in knowing the hash table internals, I have an in-depth playlist talking about how they are implemented internally and why they are the way they are. again link in a subsequent tweet.

We lose much money in loan write off. I am not sure, is it bank money or govt money or tax payers money? Whoever money it is, loosing this much money is not good for a developing country. This money could be used for any other good causes.

@kunalb11 It’s also fascinating how many people are underpaid for value they create, underutilized for their capabilities but they still stick to that company for years not knowing their true worth and not maximizing their true potential.

When you raise from a VC you need to build a unicorn (aka 1B+ company) and nothing else
Doing 10M ARR? You are a failure, 50M ARR? Nope.. You failed
A lot of amazing startups implode because of this model and this is also exactly the reason why I am never that worried to compete with well-funded companies because I know the chances of them imploding are very high
@levelsio said it very well: You are just another 1/100 bet to a VC
Is all funding bad? no, I think there are interesting opportunities and now that the model is changing (I hope) we will see more "boring" investments made in companies that focus more on sustainable business models

Extremely disappointed with mainstream media & top Indian newspapers on lack of Hockey coverage. Hockey World Cup starts tomorrow. India is hosting it. Been barely any articles even on our own players. We have brilliant hockey journalists. Give them some space please!!!
