The continued detention of Malam Nasir El-Rufai is setting a dangerous precedent.

What message are we passing on to the younger generation? That once you acquire political power, you can use it against whoever you want, while institutions meant to provide checks and balances remain helpless?

You do not have to like El-Rufai. You do not have to agree with his politics. You do not even have to sympathize with him to insist that the right thing must be done.

This is bigger than Nasir El-Rufai as an individual. It is about the strength of our institutions, respect for the rule of law, and the kind of democracy we want to build.

If El-Rufai has committed an offence, let the evidence be presented and let the courts determine his guilt or innocence through a fair and transparent process. But prolonged detention without due regard for his fundamental rights should concern every Nigerian.

Because if it is El-Rufai today, none of us knows who it could be tomorrow.

Our institutions must never be reduced to instruments for settling political scores. Bail conditions, investigations, prosecutions, and court processes must be guided by law and justice, not political convenience.

That is how strong nations are built.

My dear Arewa , look at how politics is being played.

The Yoruba have their own people in power, and despite disagreements, you hardly see prominent Yoruba politicians constantly attacking President Tinubu personally or running from one media platform to another to insult him and his government. Look at people like Adeleke, Makinde, Fashola, Bukola Saraki and others you rarely see them engaging in that kind of politics against their own.

But when it comes to our own people, we are often the first to attack and destroy the reputation of those from our region. Look at what some of our own people are trying so hard to do to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai today.

Imagine if Mallam Nasir El-Rufai were the President of Nigeria today. I strongly believe the attacks and insults from different corners of the North would be overwhelming. We saw something similar during Buhari’s time.

My point is simple: we can disagree with our leaders without deliberately destroying their names and reputations. Politics should not make us enemies of our own people.

I know the history of the Kataf crisis so much that even if you wake me up from sleep my account be near flawless and I once challenged @Olusegunverdict on the media attempts to recreate the content to fit into some predetermined narratives

The crisis in Southern Kaduna started before @elrufai ever became a politician when Zamani Lekwot and his Kataf militants instigated an ethnic cleaning project in Southern Kaduna that led to the slaughtering of thousands of innocent citizens

That earned him a death sentence by Justice Benedict Okadigbo tribunal in 1993 that was later commuted to a prison term and pardon in 1995 under General Abacha

Was @elrufai the Governor in May 1992?

But here is what is even more hypocritical about this subject; the issue of “power sharing” and how the Lagos/Ibadan toxic media axis pushed a single narrative suggesting a one way unleashing of violence

The population of Kaduna State is predominantly Muslim, probably 80/20, I am talking about the indigenous population, not “residents” from other parts of Nigeria

Why is it right for Plateau State with a large population of Muslims to have Christian Christian government (Governor/Deputy) and wrong for Kaduna to have Muslim Muslim government (Governor/Deputy)?

What is even more ironic? The current deputy Governor in Kaduna State is from Southern Kaduna or are Southern Kaduna Muslims not human beings?

Most of those promoting the toxic outburst of a Christian extremist like Christopher Gwabin do not have issues with the Muslim Muslim ticket at the Villa but have issues with Muslim Muslim ticket in Kaduna

The hypocrisy stinks like rotten eggs

But more frightening is the notoriety of Christopher Gwabin in lying, watch his several interviews where he claimed 120,000 Boko Haram terrorists surrendered and 60,000 were children

Ismail, has any Nigerian “journalist” ask CG what is the estimated number of B/H and ISWAP fighters operating in Nigeria put together and which detention or prison facility is big enough to hold these 120,000 terrorists?

Imagine his claim that Sambisa is the size of Belgium, that is a 4 star General fa or his claim of the army acquiring Tomahawk, c’mon na?

At some point, Nigerians will raise up to fight the system with everything they have because the country can not continue like this.

How can citizens buy flight tickets, a 5:30 PM flight, @flyairpeace will wait till the minute the flight was supposed to be taken off and announce casually to waiting passengers that the flight has been shifted to 8: PM? By 8:PM another shift and so on till around midnight and you tell the passengers that the flight has been canceled? And in all these, not even a sachet of pure water for the passengers. There was no arrangement to get the people accommodations, nothing. Imagine passengers have to sleep on the seats at the departure hall. Where is that done?

The agencies responsible for protecting the citizens are sleeping and acting like it is none of the business. The Minister of Aviation, @fkeyamo since he came into office have acted like the spokesman of private airlines association. The next thing is to sing on your mandate we stand, then attack the opposition.

If my train in Germany is delayed for three house while I am supposed to take the train, I and every other passengers will be compensated. If it is canceled, accommodation will be provided. Transportation to the accommodation and back to the train station, the food and water will be on the railway company, DBahn. I will still be compensated. And all these will be done with alot of 'sorry sir', 'sorry ma'. If it is a flight it is even worse. But in Nigeria we are treated like slaves by airlines that we paid our hard earned money in our own country and the government agencies that are supposed to regulate them don't even care.

Nigerians must wake up and demand this country work by force. Citizens of the developed countries we look up to didn't sit down and watched some gang of criminals do whatever they like with them forever. They demanded for it, sometimes even violently. We as Nig must insist the right thing is done at all times. When things like these happen, citizens that can afford it must go to court.

We certainly can't continue like this
