#Mets Elian Pena begins has exceeded expectations in his 1st 2 months of the season.
During April Pena was one of the hottest hitters in the MILB:
.353 BA | .467 OBP | .949 OPS | 8 2B | HR | 15 R | 11 RBI | 9 SB | 17 BB
In May he started off well but hit a wall & then finished strong:
.216 BA | .343 OBP | .650 OPS | 3B | 2 HR | 13 R | 10 RBI | 6 SB | 17 BB
OBP was still solid -> and 1 extra hit each week was the difference between his .216 BA or a more respectable .261 BA
I could care less about his power numbers -> he’s only 18, batting leadoff, & focused on functioning as a table setter.
Despite batting leadoff -> 21 RBI is tied for 4th on the team.
On the season -> has hit safely in 32 of 45 Games or 71% 🔥
April he hit safely in a REMARKABLE -> 19 of 22 Games (86%)
May he hit safely in 13 of 23 Games (57%), despite stumbling.
Pena had 14 multi-hit games in 55 GP in 2025, he’s already posted 14 multi-hit efforts in 2026 thru his first 45 games. ⚡️
‘25 Pena reached base multiple times -> 27 times | 49% of GP
‘26 Pena reached base multiple times -> 31 times | 69% of GP
‘25 Pena posted an excellent 18% BB-Rate & 16% K-Rate
‘26 Pena has maintained those numbers despite facing more advanced pitching & having minimal lineup protection.
2026 Season -> 17% BB-Rate || 19% K-Rate
2025 Season RISP Stats -> 53 PA:

2025 Season Stats vs. LHP -> 37 PA:

Behind in the Count Stats:
2025 in 53 AB -> 10 Hits | 15 K | HR | 6 BB | .189 BA
2026 in 66 AB -> 16 Hits | 20 K | 2 HR | 7 BB | .242 BA
To put things in perspective:
#Pirates Konnor Griffin 2025 -> Behind in the Count Stats:
2025 in 171 AB -> 43 Hits | 71 K | 4 HR | 20 BB | .251 BA
Coffee shop scouts can drool over EV & xOBA -> young hitters who can produce quality AB even when behind in the count, that tells you more about their future potential as a true hitter.
Pena is posting similar numbers to the undisputed #1 ranked player on every Top 100 -> granted Griffin maintained these numbers all season, despite climbing 2 more levels.
Pena is off to the type of start we all hoped he would have.
Despite facing competition that’s 3-4 years older, Pena’s maintaining production in key areas, & improving in others.
Watch what Pena does when he has legit threats like T. Snyder & M. Voit covering his flanks in the batting order at Brooklyn.
