Save HuntClubForest is a group of citizens in Ottawa actively campaigning to prevent the Red Pine plantation forest at 400 HuntClubRd from being clear cut.
@RiverWardRiley ... 2/2 embedded with a deep love and commitment to protecting from pollution and preserving forever #SaveHCforest the water, forests and arable lands in our beautiful nation. I have a dream! @s_guilbeault@OmarAlghabra
@RiverWardRiley Indeed! I wonder how we might become the best Canadian city at protecting all of urban waterways - from creeks (like Sawmill and Hunt Club and so many more) to rivers (ie, Jock, Rideau, Ottawa) and canals (why not?).
I dream of a day when part of Canadian culture will be ...1/2
@drivesincircles @feathermoss And I clap and throw smiles at each of you when you drive by me on Hunt Club Rd. Thank you for BEING there and for keeping the economy moving! 🌱🌻💐
@canadianosprey @KatePorterCBC @RiverWardRiley@dianedeans When is the last time you visited this forest plantation, Mark? and seen the young White, Red and Scotch Pines, Burr Oaks, Maples, Beeches, etc bravely, and against all expectations, coming up in the understory. They just need more space and light. @RiverWardRiley@dianedeans
@canadianosprey @KatePorterCBC @RiverWardRiley@dianedeans The fact that these Red Pines have never been managed is a shame for its owner and supposed steward - that would be our federal gov't!This site is a perfect candidate 4 a plantation to mixed forest conversion. @KatePorterCBC Glad this is called “plantation” (tho “forest” also used). These have positive carbon-capture use but no one should be under illusion that mono-culture plantations do *anything* to enhance biodiversity. As a birder I know they’re a “green desert”. @RiverWardRiley@dianedeans
