“There should be a place for diversity in all our suburbs and for public housing alongside every walk of life but, if [the government] was going to sell it, they obviously got a completely dud deal,” she said.
“This is a little piece of our diverse Sydney history that’s lost. I think it’s sad. I can’t get Sirius back but we cannot make that mistake again.”
"Jackson said losing public housing in expensive central suburbs left society worse off" The Minister @RoseBJackson nails it.

Check the branding on the #Sirius construction site. "Retained. Restored. Reimagined."
Desperately needed public housing converted to 76 boutique residences. More like "Reactionary. Revanchist. Revolting." I might get some stickers made...
#058 of 105 Sirius. Designed by Tao Gofers (design architect) for the NSW Housing Commission, 1980. Working drawings by Alexander and Lloyd. Cumberland Street, The Rocks.
Look at abject failure of NSW Govt on public housing!
-ripped $3+bill in public land sales
-sold off 4205 public housing dwellings
-built only 2393 replacement dwellings
-still 50 000+ waiting list
Over a decade when housing need has only become more acute

Important to strongly support #DefendPublicHousing rally in Redfern, advocating for more public & affordable housing, retention of public land rather than sell off & rent protection & support.
Crucial to retain hard won public lands for public purpose
In a time of housing crisis, it's callous and wrong to flog off public housing land to private developers. The South Waterloo development should be 100% public housing. Housing is a human right.

" At this rate, the disposal of the billion-dollar site will create just 10 new social units each year over the next three decades"

@shelternsw says the current approach to selling off land is “cannibalising” the housing stock. “NSW needs 5000 additional dwellings per year for a decade just to catch up.”
Today @WorldMonuments have added Kinchela Aboriginal Boys Home to their watch list for 2022.
Only the 2nd time an Australian site has been recognised, with @saveoursirius the first.

She would say, “There has to be room in the city for everyone. Nobody wants a city just for rich people. Public housing gives people with less money a chance to live close to jobs and people they have known.”
Tonight at Council, we’ll honour and celebrate the remarkable life of Myra Demetriou, who passed away earlier this month.
Myra lived in the Millers Point community for over 60 years and was an integral part of campaigns to save social housing across our City. @saveoursirius
She was the heart of the Millers Point community for more than 50 years. She knew every neighbour, and was never shy of sharing the issues that neeeded change. She was a perfect advocate for us all to learn from, and who took us all under her guidance.
Vale Myra Demetriou.
For so many in @CityofSydney, Myra was the face of the @saveoursirius campaign. She was legally blind, proudly lived alone & fought to the end to be the last remaining resident in the social housing in Miller's Point after the NSW Gov sold it off.
