BREAKING: scientists scream for system change as they point the finger at economic growth and media silence amidst a consensus we're in a rapid mass extinction driving up to 50% of Earth's species into oblivion by the 2030s because of human activities during global capitalism 🧵
Coined the “rainforests of the sea,” #CoralReefs are some of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet but have been threatened by changes to our oceans resulting from #ClimateChange.🌊🐠🦀🐟🦑🌎

My message in the face of the recent IPCC report? Whether we are driven by rage or by theory, by creativity or by education, whether we are doctors, activists, authors, musicians, lawyers or mothers, there is a role for everyone in the climate movement.
IPCC 2022- GHG emissions have continued to rise as have cumulative emissions since 1850. Average annual GHG emissions during 2010-2019 were higher than in any previous decade, but the rate of growth in 2010-2019 was lower than 2000-2009. @IPCC_CH (1/n)
🧵1 . Scientists agree: economic growth will make the extinction crisis of habitat destruction, toxic pollution and abrupt climate change difficult for humanity to survive decently, or perhaps even at all
* 1.5°C horrors by 2025-2030
The answer? Degrowth:https://t.co/FDDcBF3tNo
Capitalism 2027
1. corals: 90% dead
2. unsurvivable heat
3. water scarcity hell
4. Antarctica collapses
5. global food insecurity
6. a million species extinct
7. tropics becoming uninhabitable
8. high risk of climate feedback doom
Only a postgrowth economy can avoid this now.🧵
