CONFESSION OF JEALOUSY BY THE OPPOSITION LEADER

Hamzah Zainudin’s press conference at Parliament today was nothing short of a public confession — not of confidence, but of jealousy. Though he repeatedly claimed that the opposition bloc harbors no envy toward the Prime Minister and the unity government, every word he spewed betrayed the exact opposite. It was a performance dripping with resentment, insecurity, and political desperation.

For nearly 20 minutes, Hamzah mocked the Prime Minister for engaging warmly with President Trump, even sneering at the lighthearted moment when PMX sang and danced during a musical performance at a government event. What Hamzah tried to paint as frivolous was in fact an image of a confident leader, , respected by global figures, and unbothered by domestic noise.

Not stopping there, Hamzah went on to attack the Speaker of the House for simply upholding parliamentary order — something his own unruly members seem incapable of respecting. The opposition’s constant antics in Parliament have become a national embarrassment, yet Hamzah chose to cast discipline as discrimination.

And then, as expected, he took aim at the recently signed US–Malaysia Trade Agreement, twisting its economic promise into a baseless narrative of “surrendered sovereignty.” This tired propaganda line has been the opposition’s favorite crutch. Fear mongering in place of facts. The agreement, which opens new trade frontiers and strengthens Malaysia’s economic position, has been deliberately misrepresented for cheap political mileage.

It’s particularly disappointing to see figures like Hasan Karim amplifying these falsehoods. His emotional outburst in Parliament, echoing opposition spin, revealed more about his disinterest in facts. Having already announced he won’t be seeking re-election, Hasan’s reckless statements carry the air of someone who no longer cares about the truth but as someone who aspires to retire with a loud bang that he is still relevant.

As for Hamzah himself, his ambitions are showing. With Muhyiddin Yassin fading fast into political irrelevance, Hamzah appears to fancy himself as the “Prime Minister in waiting.” But that fantasy only exposes the rot within Bersatu — a party now politically comatose, surviving on artificial life support. The inevitable pull of the plug is only a matter of time.

In the end, Hamzah’s press conference wasn’t about policy, principle, or the people. It was about envy — pure and unrestrained. The kind that fuels tantrums, not leadership.

The opposition doesn’t need a new strategy. It needs a reality check.
