For far too long, Africa has been viewed primarily as a challenge to be managed rather than an opportunity to be harnessed. That narrative is changing as the continent emerges as a major destination for investment, innovation and sustainable growth.

Kenya and Norway have built a strong relationship founded on trust, mutual respect and shared ambition, creating a solid foundation for deeper economic cooperation and sustainable development.

Norway’s partnership with Kenya on the National Electric Mobility Programme and other strategic initiatives reflects our shared commitment to innovation, green growth and economic transformation.

Addressing the Norwegian–Kenyan Business Forum, we highlighted opportunities to expand trade, investment and partnerships between our two countries. Kenya offers a young, dynamic and highly skilled workforce, a rapidly growing market, and a strategic position as a gateway to Africa’s 1.4 billion consumers.

We also underscored the vast potential for collaboration in infrastructure, renewable energy, green industrialisation, technology and agriculture to drive growth, create jobs and deliver shared prosperity.

To Norway’s business community, we extend a warm invitation to invest, innovate and grow with us as long-term partners in Kenya’s development journey.

Held productive discussions with Norway’s Finance Minister, Jens Stoltenberg, on opportunities for collaboration between Norway’s sovereign wealth fund and Kenya’s National Infrastructure Fund (NIF), including the sharing of best practices in sovereign wealth management and exploring avenues for investment in strategic infrastructure projects.

Kenya is pursuing sustainable, long-term investments in critical infrastructure, including ports, airports, roads, energy and agriculture. This includes our ambitious plan to generate 10,000 megawatts of electricity to power industrialisation, create jobs and drive inclusive economic growth while safeguarding prosperity for future generations.

We further explored opportunities for cooperation in green energy, climate finance and carbon markets as part of our shared commitment to sustainable development and economic transformation.

Met the President of the Norwegian Parliament, Masud Gharahkhani, and discussed ways to further strengthen Kenya–Norway relations, deepen parliamentary cooperation, promote democratic governance and advance our shared development agenda.

We underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in deepening bilateral relations and promoting mutual understanding between our peoples.

We also appreciated Norway’s support for regional peace and stability efforts in South Sudan, where Kenya continues to play a constructive role in promoting dialogue, reconciliation and sustainable peace.

Strengthening Kenya–Norway relations remains key to advancing our shared interests in trade, investment, maritime cooperation and sustainable development.

In Oslo, I held bilateral talks with my Norwegian counterpart, @EspenBarthEide, where we explored opportunities to deepen cooperation between our two countries and build on the strong partnership that has developed over the years.

Our discussions focused on expanding economic ties, promoting investment, strengthening collaboration in the maritime and blue economy sectors, and advancing sustainable development initiatives that deliver mutual benefits to our people.

Odinga was a strong voice for democracy in Kenya and a close friend of Norway, where he spent time in exile in 1991.

@GCAdaptation partners convening on the AAAP. Program has delivered, Africa-backed and has mobilized political will around the continent. The model works - now the task is to build on the strenghts, focus on execution and go to scale. We need to invest in Africa’s resilience.

At the High-Level Partners’ Convening on the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (#AAAP), Mr. @HIbrekk, Special Envoy on Climate and Security and Policy Director at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that Africa is part of the solution.

He called for tapping into all available sources of finance and using funds more strategically, including scaling up through mobilizing domestic resources.

Reflecting on AAAP 1.0, he stressed the need to retain what works, strengthen what is lacking, and continue building capabilities and convening power. Locally led adaptation must remain central, while mobilizing funds from all sources, sharing risks, and aligning finance with development strategies.

Norway’s message was clear: Africa’s leadership in adaptation is vital, and continued collaboration through the AAAP is key to turning ambition into action.
