Sharing with our European colleagues about all of the great #scicomm programs offered by @VT_ACT to support @virginia_tech students and faculty! #gppvt21
Teaching a community nutrition course right now and we covered health inequities and structural violence today. Couldn't have been more timely. What is structural violence? It's "social arrangements that systematically put individuals and populations in harm's way."
Doing my first #skypeascientist this week! Will be talking to 5th graders about climate change and food systems. Any ideas on how to do an engaging activity on Google Meet? Also, any advice for a first-timer is greatly appreciated! #scicomm@SkypeScientist@SarahMackAttack
@herd_toria I totally feel you. This happened to me for one of my manuscripts a while back and I just couldn't get motivated enough to submit. Like it was keeping me up at night but I still wasn't motivated enough ahhhh
Can we start a support group for all the PhD students out there who now have to do their defense presentation to an empty room via zoom because of #COVID19
I know it's the smart thing to do but it's still a pretty heartbreaking way to end 6 years of blood sweat and tears.
Has anyone called Zoom yet to let them know that pretty much every academic in the country is planning to start using their service several times a week with pretty large groups in the next week or so? I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
Tips I have found the most helpful in my ongoing attempts to avoid academic overwhelm:
1) I can say no right away, but I have to wait 24 hours to say yes.
2) If it's an invitation/request with a date in the future, I imagine it's next week and evaluate it from that perspective.
Give a big welcome to Matt Hulver (@MHulver), our new executive director. We are excited and, above all, honored to have him at the helm.

I live in Seattle, I have all symptoms of COVID-19 and have a history of chronic bronchitis.
Since I work in a physical therapy clinic with many 65+ patients and those with chronic illnesses, I decided to be responsible and go to get tested. This is how that went.
