@DrMattParker I also adopted the same practice as my cooperating teacher where they took over one or two sections from day 1. We would work to have them solo teach full days for 2-4 weeks, then back back down . It was nice to have conversations about the compromises needed to not overwork.
@DrMattParker Explain your philosophy, and allow them to adapt their sections to their own. I was doing a lot of untraditional things in my classroom, but I explained why and let them decide whether they wanted to also do those things.
@BillHecht74 @SeanJD15 @BenPopeCST And play who? You don't want to risk the development of the younger talent, and neither of the netminders in Rockford are ready to be big-time in Chicago. Let them cook. Let Sodie sort himself out. We will survive.
There is something magical about students expressing their appreciation for your efforts. Really excited for the future contributions my Game Design folks are going to have in their respective fields.
@dontworryteach That is part of why I listen as well. If it is actively reading the paper to me, I have to focus on it because otherwise I'm going to be left behind. I think you can also set up controls to block access to certain apps for an assist on that.
@dontworryteach I use my iPad with Paper ship because it can tie into zotero. I also use Natural Reader, so I can listen to readings which helps with the distraction.
๐ข k12 educators! Would you be interested in talking to some MIT students developing learning tech for classrooms and give them feedback? Students from our "AI for Ed" class are looking to engage educators and discuss their ideas.
@TechySewell This was one of the reasons I loved the edcamp movement when I was still in the classroom. I would drive all over to spend the day with like-minded folks who had managed to scrape together donations for food and gotten their district to open the doors.
@spikespeigel@offgridteacher Asked or told, there is a power dynamic at play both in the fact that you are a student teacher and their child is enrolled in the school. I could imagine a million scenarios of wanting to not have something come down on my child because somebody was frustrated with me.
In case anyone forgot what chaos teachers are working with...
I had a cultivated horse themed library in my classroom when I taught as well as a bunch of science content comic books. Unfortunate that we can't let teachers share their personalities and appear human.

Wednesday morning! I'm sadly sitting this one out because I'm teaching summer Game Design, but it should be good!
@_moravick Is your preprint in the conference app? I'm in several reading groups this summer, one of which is a whole environment crew. I'd love to bring it to them.
Everyone should have a colleague that pushes you to learn new things. Shoutout to @MamtaShah for aiding my discovery of the pandas progress_apply function. My goodness would that have been useful while watching my cell run for over an hour yesterday.
Are you a teacher who has used Wake: Tales from the Aqualab in your teaching? We are offering $50 to participate in a 60 minute interview. Interested? Sign up at https://t.co/WUhlzR9RKw
