For 1000s of years my dad’s Island Imbros was Greek. In the 20’s, it was still 98% Greek under ottomans. After population exchanges between Christians & Muz, the Treaty of Lausanne guaranteed special protections & autonomy for the Greeks because Turkey wanted to keep it because of its strategic location. Then, Greek schools were closed, property stolen & an open air prison was established in the 60s to allow Turkish violent felons to do what they pleased to remaining Greeks. It’s now 99% Turk & called something with squiggles over the letters.
