Anas Sarwar has been the Labour Minister of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Glasgow since 2016. Prior to that he was the Labour MP for Glasgow Central from 2010 to 2015. He is currently leader of the Scottish Labour Party.

The privately educated Sarwar is a dentist by profession.

On 13th April 2026, Anas launched Labour’s campaign for the Scottish elections. He urged voters to give him ‘five years to fix the SNP mess.’

Anas also posted on Twitter/X that he would ‘restore the NHS to its founding principles of being free and available at the point of need.’

Anas has been described as a ‘Blairite’ and in 2011 was vice president of the Blair-linked organisation Progress.

Anas was a persistent and outspoken critic of Jeremy Corbyn and joined the 2016 coup to remove Corbyn as Labour leader. Later that year, Anas supported Owen Smith’s leadership bid against Corbyn. Both manoeuvres were unsuccessful.

In 2018, Anas joined (or was recruited by) the British American Project (BAP). The BAP was formed in 1985 out of the US Embassy in London to ‘counter anti-American sentiments in Britain and the Labour Party in particular.’

The late investigative journalist Paul Foot described the BAP as being a ‘front’ organisation for the right wing Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

In 2018, Anas travelled to the U.S. to attend a BAP conference in Seattle. In 2021, he helped organise the BAP’s conference in Glasgow.

Prominent politicians, journalists, intelligence operatives, tech personnel and defence personnel who are also BAP members include:

Labour MPs and associates Rushanara Ali, Alison McGovern, Douglas Alexander, David Miliband and Peter Mandelson. The former head of MI6 John Sawers. Journalists Evan Davis and Jane Hill of the BBC, Manveen Rana of The Times, Trevor Phillips and Isabel Hilton. Melanie LeGrande of Amazon, Jennifer Jamie of Google and Joanna Geary of Twitter/X. Michael Smeeth (former husband of Ruth Smeeth), and Kate Forbes @theSNP Deputy First Minister of Scotland.

Anas Sarwar has described the BAP as his ‘“special family.”’

In 2019 the US Secretary of State and former director of the CIA Mike Pompeo said that the U.S. would “push back” against the prospect of Jeremy Corbyn becoming prime minister. The CIA funded BAP was clearly part of that push back.

The @ElectoralCommUK website shows that Anas has received £232,191.43 in donations and perks. These include:

£20,000 from the private healthcare company Rightdose Healthcare Ltd.

£36,000 in 2 payments from Perveen Sarwar.

£37,000 from United Brands Ltd.

£40,000 from Poonam Gupta/PG Paper Company Ltd.

£40,000 from the CEO and founder of private healthcare company Rightdose Healthcare Ltd, Kasim Gulzar.

£3,500 from the UAE government for a visit to the UAE. ✈️ 🇦🇪

With his basic £74,507 salary, expenses, shareholdings in his family’s firm United Wholesale Scotland (estimated to be £57,000 annually) and benefits, Anas’s career has prospered at Westminster and in Scotland.
