The MOU was a great deal on paper for Iran such that it was almost surprising the U.S. signed something so lopsided but almost immediately thereafter it became clear that the rub was that the U.S. was simply not planning to enforce its part of the deal and was most likely just trying to buy time to reposition after the midterms (they didn’t even withdraw any troops which would have been bare minimum positive signal). I don’t think this is really about enrichment or the nuclear program it doesn’t even seem like most of the administration even knows about the details of the nuclear subject too deeply. It really does seem to be about destroying Iran and it is just a question of whether the Iranians can make the Americans and Israelis despair of that enough to start eventually considering other options.

I’ve been thinking for quite some time, trying to make sense of the general silence of Democratic voters that usually speak against Republican-launched wars.

In my view, a major reason for their silence is people like this guy. They legitimized the war in a way that would have not been otherwise.

Just consider how an ordinary voter thinks: if these Iranian people are ok with their country being invaded and bombed, then it must be ok, because no normal person would be for bombing their people ordinarily.

I suspect part of it is also from a perception of trying not to offend or break any relationships with Jews in their circles.

But there’s no question for me that people like this guy had a lot to do with it.
