@KendallGPace Only a one-third excuse, but median hourly wage in Lockhart is ~0.83x vs. Austin. Stronger economies are punished by the Recapture formulae.
That said, AISD's budget hole is inexcusable on the whole.
> Use environmental quality commission to kill infrastructure projects
Look, I get that data centers are politically terrible right now, but please, for the love of god, don’t California my Texas.
@jon_wertheim Tara Moore was banned for 4 years in 2025 for anabolic steroids; this was upheld at 4 years by CAS.
You are strongly implying that Moore should have simply decided to refuse the test, no?
@KendallGPace@aasviewpoints Helps that wage levels in general are ~0.8x in Manor vs. City of Austin (https://t.co/miWbMtoWtM). That holds down a whole lot of expenses.
Not to excuse AISD completely, but recapture formulae badly needs to take wage gaps into account.
I think when things like this happen prosecutors should make a point of seeking significant jail time and making the defendants famous. A LOT of sports fans need to internalize the message that you NEVER assault someone for rooting for another team.
Caleb Hammer on Rogan talking about how he wants a good subway system in Austin, but the homeless and criminal justice problems make it a non-starter
Many public transit advocates are coming to the same conclusion, We have to enforce the camping ban and replace our DA!

*ORCL will move HQ to Nashville in several years; will maintain many employees in Austin.
saw a homeless man in downtown austin today with plastic bags tied around his hands and feet.
the biggest lie we’ve told ourselves is that leaving severely mentally ill people on the streets is somehow more humane than treating them.
we need to have an honest conversation about bringing back mental health institutions.
