One year ago today, I unfriended one of my best friends from high school.
We’d kept in touch, unlike most of my old friends. She lived a couple hours south we got together a couple times a year until I moved. She knew my kids.
She posted a meme of a skeleton drinking that said, “shots to the neck for Charlie Kirk today.”
I immediately unfriended her, not only in Facebook, but irl. I blocked her number.
We grew up together. She knows I’m conservative. She knows Charlie and I have the same beliefs. We disagreed a lot, but I never wished her ill.
When she celebrated Charlie’s death because of his beliefs, I realized that she would celebrate my death.
That’s not hyperbole. She cut off her mom completely because she wouldn’t get vaccinated.
My eyes were wide opened that day.
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.
HOY, EN COSAS QUE PASAN EN LA ESCUELA: DOS NIÑOS DE TERCER GRADO DISCUTIENDO SOBRE LOS SUEÑOS. UNO DICE QUE LA VIDA PUEDE SER UN SUEÑO, Y QUE «NUESTRA PERSONA REAL» ESTÁ DURMIENDO; Y EL OTRO DEBATIÉNDOLE, DICIENDO QUE TODO ES REAL PORQUE PODEMOS SENTIR Y EXPERIMENTAR LAS COSAS.
People love to say audiobooks “aren’t really reading,” but pick up any Victorian novel and half the characters are sitting around after dinner listening to someone read a novel aloud.
Hell, go back to Homeric times, and literature wasn't written down at all—it was performed.
Audiobook people aren’t cheating—they’re reviving a lost literary tradition.
🚨On August 15, a massive nationwide anti-communist rally was held across South Korea, drawing hundreds of thousands of people, yet the South Korean media, already controlled by the Chinese Communist Party, did not report on it.
But the people of our free Republic of Korea will defend our national sovereignty, even at the cost of our lives. We will never hand our precious country over to the Chinese Communist Party. We will pass down the gift of liberal democracy to our future generations.
To the nations of the world: Once you lose your national sovereignty, it is too late. South Korea, too, is now on the verge of being completely turned into a communist state. But the Korean people will fight for liberal democracy, even if it means giving everything we have.
We will not surrender our country. We will not surrender our freedom. 🇰🇷
