@bphillipsonMP Talk about spin. The White Paper is explicitly aimed at rationing support to only the most "severe" cases to cut council costs. Forcing kids into mainstream schools without proper funding isn't "best practice"—it's a massive watering down of legal protections.
@educationgovuk@MathsladyScott@bphillipsonMP A tick box exercise is exactly what it is, and saying otherwise doesn’t change that. The consultation has already been legally challenged precisely because it isn’t a genuine consultation. Current law is fine - the only thing that needs changing is far more accountability.
If taking away disabled children’s legal rights to schooling is ‘taking them as far as talent tales them’ which on many cases is, no access to school. What an absolute fraud you are #SEND
@educationgovuk On Saturday thousands of people protested against these reforms, which will undermine inclusion and remove disabled children’s rights. The more you ignore us, the louder we will become. #SaveSENDLegalRights

This is the time to come together, to spread knowledge, to make sure people are not blindsided by the 'positive spin' that is being served to us about the proposed changes in the White Paper, and to understand what they 'really' mean for you as parents, professionals, and schools
The right to appeal placement to a Tribunal came from the 96 Education Act again under a Conservative Government. And again the 2014 Act extended rights - under a Conservative Government. Now a Labour Government is rolling back legal rights by decades. Shame on you Labour
After the disgraceful news that the Government has "already decided" on its plans for curbing the role of the SEND Tribunal, our co-Director, Gill Doherty, has this to say—don't miss this, because it's important. Sign up for our legal roundtable webinar: https://t.co/AqqRQVPY7t
During Neurodiversity Celebration Week a Labour Government has decided without any proposed consultation to remove fundamental rights of appeal to SENDIST for CYP with SEN. Shame on them https://t.co/q6qvT599ah
Government admits key final decisions on the SEND Tribunal have already been made, despite consultation on its SEND reforms being open till 18 May. It's at odds with ministers' statements on the consultation engaging people 'before any final decision'. https://t.co/H49vXSSogW
NEW POST: Eleanor Wright, Legal Officer with SEND law charity, @sos_sen asks sceptically if SEND lawyers are REALLY opposing the Government’s reform proposals just to protect their “vested interests” as Bridget Phillipson claims? https://t.co/dKNT1bU2Kt
Independent special schools are targeted in the SEND proposals—but many are charities like More House School in Frensham, which also offers SEND teacher training. Headmaster, Jonathan Hetherington, says it's "a grave mistake" to ignore the sector's input https://t.co/xWh446f5wM
NEW POST: The Government’s use of unaccountable ‘experts’ for SEND reform is shutting down debate & excluding vital voices: those of parents and people across the sector who don't agree with them—and says Dr Kieron Smith, it's undemocratic: https://t.co/JGcGrgCfQd
I’ve written to every Member of Parliament today.
Proposals before Parliament would remove jury trials from offences carrying up to three years in prison.
Freedoms rarely vanish overnight. They are chipped away in the name of efficiency.
Juries did not cause the crisis in our courts. Removing them will not fix it.
When the state seeks to take someone’s liberty for serious offences, the judgment of ordinary citizens should never be optional.
This is close to becoming law.

1) Autism is the primary need in one-third of all current EHCPs.
Convenient that this intervention from Frith, printed in the TES, should come at the same time as SEN reform, which will impact autistic children and their families.
