@bishiebunny@broadwaybabyto I did. And I'm gonna tell. You know why? Because when someone eventually steals from me, I'm hoping THEY get arrested as well.
I need money, does that give me the right to rob a bank? Why is it so hard to understand, if it's not yours, you have no claim to it?
@jacksonhinkle It's standard security practice, especially in heightened security such as when something like the World Cup is being held.
Stop making something out of nothing.
@StunningIfTrue2@denverhaslam@WallStreetMav@grok Yeah... it's ridiculous. Even if it were true, (and I'm not saying it is) why would it matter? What would it change.
Though I have to admit, it does make for rather hilarious memes. ๐
Sen. @timkaine I am a conservative constituent who often disagrees with you on many issues, but I wanted to personally thank you for your recent public comments on the Karmelo Anthony trial verdict.
When asked about fellow Democrats claiming the verdict was unfair due to the jury's racial makeup, you acknowledged the concerns but stated, "I know what they are saying, but I have a hard time understanding why they would say that."
Your willingness to push back against racially charged narratives and support the integrity of the jury's decisionโreached after evidence was presentedโshows real principle and fairness.
In a time when many prioritize politics over facts and justice, your stance stands out. As someone who values the rule of law and equal justice regardless of race, I appreciate you speaking up this way. It gives me hope that reasonable voices can still cross party lines on fundamental issues.
Thank you again for your service.
I notice you didn't mention how much they get in benefits.... ๐ค
Alright I will tell you. According to the CBO between 2021 and 2023, illegal immigrants cost state and local government $19.3 Billion due to benefits received. No, they don't technically qualify for federal benefits, but they do, often times qualify for state benefit. Where does that money come from? Well, MediCal is available for illegal immigrants to get medical benefits. MediCal is 59% funded with federal money. I suppose you can make an argument that the expansions to cover illegals is funded by the state... Ok.... So... You like to complain about what could be done with rich people's money. Imagine what roads could be fixed, or teachers could be paid if the state and local governments didn't have to spend that $19 billion on people who are not legally supposed to be here. Those numbers may be different now since we have net negative immigration currently. But those are the numbers available. Please try again.
Sorry. I saw the low hanging fruit and went for it.
I agree workers should try to get the best wage they can. But you donโt get paid based on how badly you need money. You get paid based on what your labor is worth to someone else in a market where both sides can say no.
A potential employee is offering time, skill, reliability, experience, trainability, and productivity. The employer is looking at that and asking, โIs this worth the wage, the training, the tools, the supervision, the risk, and the investment?โ
If almost anyone can do the job with little training, then the supply of that labor is high, which means the wage is going to be lower. If the skill is rare, difficult, dangerous, or hard to replace, then the wage goes up.
Thatโs not exploitation. Thatโs supply and demand.
And this is where wage mandates become a problem. A wage mandate does not magically make the labor more valuable. It just raises the legal cost of hiring that labor.
If the job only produces so much value for the business, and the government says the employer has to pay more than that job can economically support, the employer has to make up the difference somewhere.
That means higher prices, fewer hours, fewer employees, stricter hiring, automation, outsourcing, or eliminating the position entirely.
So from a harm-based framework, you are not eliminating harm. You are moving it. You are moving it onto the employer, the customer, the worker who loses hours, the applicant who never gets hired, or the small business that canโt absorb the cost.
The worker has the autonomy to say, โNo, Iโm not working for that.โ The employer has the autonomy to say, โNo, Iโm not investing that much into this position.โ
Both sides have to be able to walk away, or it isnโt voluntary anymore - it coerced.
