@rebootdude Mostly agree with the list except maybe the first one. Unless it’s a VC business, I think segment size and future potential should not be the first thing we should be thinking about. The next 3 things are much more important.

1. sell the plot and take dollars with me, having to take less student loans to fund my education/ not invested in Pak.

2. Keep the plot in Pakistan, build or liquidate at a later date/ stay invested in Pak.

Guess the ROI on both.

I converted $5000 at PKR 155 while coming to the US in August 2021.

Around the same time, I had a plot in Islamabad that I decided not to sell thinking I would eventually come back & build a house there.

Worst decision of my life. It has lost half its value in $$ terms since.

I don't want to sound hopeless but I don't see a scenario where I would willingly come back to Pakistan and convert my $$ earnings to PKR.

I still pray that I eventually find my way back home.

@AmanNasirX Can’t agree more. My best 10K time in Pakistan came with 6 months of training and I easily beat that time by 2 minutes in Chicago having not run a whole year before that.

Wasn’t sure how colleges would perceive that.

@rebootdude qq - would b-schools seriously consider someone who wants to go the non-traditional route like start own thing vs go into traditional consulting/ PM jobs?

Asking from the point of employability because most internationals aren’t considered anywhere besides these specific roles.

@rebootdude The biggest mistake I’ve noticed in international students (including me) who got in is that they stop selling once they are inside b-school.

MBA is just a small part of profile, you’ll get internships (and jobs) mostly based on your past experiences.

@rebootdude I've found from experience that people’s reliability index varies based on who they are dealing with. You might see them as extremely reliable with others but once you ask, they consistently fall short.

MBA admissions are upon us. This was one of the most challenging times for me 2 years ago as I was applying with little to no guidance.

I hope no other Pakistani students have to go through that.
