@taylorelyse25 Thank you. So proud of what you accomplished and so sad that I failed to get you proper recognition. I might not be as bad as I think but you know of the frequent occurrences that clearly tell me that I am worse than I think.
New paper from my lab in @EJNeuroscience shows PI4Ks have differential roles in synaptic function/development (https://t.co/JxQFdst5Jy) Majority of work done by my former MSc student Claire Richter Gorey. Funded by @NSERC_CRSNG. Collaboration with @JulieBrill5. @ScienceUWindsor
In 5 of 5 battles, the Velvet Ant survived the attack and we could see its stinger clearly deployed in every case. Everything happens pretty quickly but we actually see that the Mantis releases its grip at the precise moment when the stinger penetrates the forelimb. Nature is π€―
And now for the most important tweet of all. This work was carried out almost entirely by @lydiaborjon an amazingly talented PhD scientist. Lydia is going on the job market searching for faculty positions and her email is lhoffst at iu dot edu. You should definitely hire her!
Preprint just dropped!ποΈWe discover molecular mechanisms of the excruciatingly painful sting of the Scarlet Velvet Ant (Dasymutilla occidentalis). Title: "Multiple mechanisms of action of an extremely painful venom." 𧡠1/N https://t.co/FDslgqBylW
Check out my Spotlight article in Trends in Genetics in which I highlight an exciting article from Amit Singh that appeared in PNAS earlier this year. He identifies a role for the Dve transcription factor and its human ortholog in the placement of eyes.

@EstherVerheyen@CIHR_IRSC I do, it is insane that they pay more attention to the format than the content. Not allowing to attach pub anymore is a huge problem taking away space from proposal to put figures already published (got rev complain that they do not have sub to my pubs).
F... went to sleep and still woke up....to another day of deception. Added to the death of my father and the sickness of my isolated mother, ran out of tears...
writing again a new @CIHR_IRSC application to get it rejected as it has been for every single application since 2008. It's a corrupted lottery I am never allowed to win or even get a chance (only one app discussed 10yrs ago).
@Hoosierflyman I found the best way not to deal with IT, never use any of their services for teaching or research, all my lectures on my local hard drive and I bring my own projector. All lab data on local server managed by ME (can still work with internet down).
@TanentzapfLab The worst is that promotion/grants are mostly based on ability to bring $ rather than publications. I became a scientist to do experimental work at the bench, not to run a start-up, hyping results and be an entertainer.
Ashamed by decision/rev3 comments on a paper I just reviewed. Rev 3 did not read the paper...neither the editor who both are surprised authors used 90 days old flies at 29C when it is repeatedly indicated that flies are kept at 18C before a 24h 29C induction.
Manufacturers are trapping us in planned obsolescence. It's time to reclaim our #RightToRepair and break their monopolistic control! π«π± Sign the petition now to demand better support and stop e-waste before the consultation closes on Sept 26! βπ§ https://t.co/9FkIJjcdGp
