Students for Equity and Reform in Virginia is a CIO at the University of Virginia dedicated to fighting for legislation to make Virginia more equitable.
“Rising fees and executive salaries contribute to the cost burden on students..."
“Capping fees and salaries helps redirect sources towards student support and reinforces the idea of education as a public service not a profit-driven enterprise.”

And how did they surveil her you ask? With Flock automatic license plate readers (ALPRs), the same mass surveillance technology some Virginia lawmakers are trying to install on over 60k miles of state highways. We must continue to oppose mass surveillance and block Flock. #VALeg
Until today, Virginia was one of eleven remaining states that allowed the indiscriminate shackling of children in court. HB 2222 (@Rae_Cousins23) & SB 1255 (@DPVAChair) prohibits this practice to ensure fairness, due process rights, and our children’s well-being in our courts. 2/
"It's a major problem that agencies will use their point of access to the Flock system to get information in jurisdictions where it is either prohibited by law or the agency is not actively cooperating with ICE." -@rpogge https://t.co/oiChQWGxdI
Now more than ever, I’m glad my amendment passed to stop the expansion of these cameras to highways and to require a second look at the potential expansion of their footprint in the future.

“Hundreds of Flock Safety cameras capturing images of motorists across Virginia weren’t supposed to be used for immigration enforcement. But they were.”

Next session, legislation will come up to expand mass surveillance.
Call, email, and meet with your delegate and senator, tell them to vote NO!
Thank you to @JusticeFwdVa, @lashrecseaird and so many more for leading this fight!

Another summer of excuses. Nottoway, Buckingham, Bland, Harrisonburg, Appalachian, Cold Springs, and Deerfield Corrections Centers STILL don’t have air-conditioning. https://t.co/HjOr9HmaFR @vademocrats@vahousegop
Thank you to Senators @SenLouiseLucas@ssurovell@AaronRouseVA and so many more who listened to students, faculty and staff who asked the Senate to reject Ken Cuccinelli!
We will not tolerate Governor Youngkin violating our constitution to keep extremists on university boards. The Senate has acted and our decision is final.

This past session, we were proud to support Del. @HollySeiboldVA’s legislation to ensure Virginia’s prisons meet the standards for humane treatment.
We will be back and look forward to seeing this legislation signed into law this session!
Reminder: several prisons in VA have no air conditioning. People under our state's supervision will be subjected to temperatures well above 120 inside cinderblock cells. Some will likely die, as in past summer heat waves. Youngkin vetoed @HollySeiboldVA's bill to address this.
News: The Virginia Senate Privileges and Elections Committee has rejected the nominations of several of @GovernorVA's appointments to various higher education institution boards, including former AG @KenCuccinelli, who Youngkin tapped to join the UVA Board of Visitors.
Earlier today, the Senate Privileges and Elections committee convened to oppose the nomination of Mr. Ken Cuccinelli following a letter released by students, faculty and staff in May.
Merit….Cuccinelli’s appointment would be an affront to academic freedom.
He misused his office to pursue meritless, politically-motivated lawsuits against professors he didn’t agree with. He lost. He cost taxpayers tons of money. He hampered and threatened UVA. No trophy for him.
“Eighteen different student groups at UVA sent a joint letter to every member of the General Assembly on Wednesday, calling for them to block the confirmation of an appointed Board of Visitors member, Ken Cuccinelli.” https://t.co/e8nG87j6Sq
