REDWOOD AI EXPLORES AI-DRIVEN PATHOGEN TRACKING AT RWANDA-DRC BORDER
Canadian technology firm Redwood AI has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Dr. Placide Sesonga of the Rwanda-based University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) to explore the deployment of AI-powered genomic surveillance systems along the Rwanda–DRC border.
The initiative aims to combine artificial intelligence, genomic sequencing, geospatial analytics, and epidemiological data to improve the detection and tracking of infectious diseases, including #Ebola in DRC.
If implemented, the project could strengthen outbreak monitoring, support faster public health responses, and further position Rwanda as a growing hub for health innovation and epidemic preparedness in Africa. #FactsOnRwanda
The UGHE community gathered at the Kigali Genocide Memorial (@Kigali_Memorial) to mark #Kwibuka32.
Students, faculty, and staff stood in solemn reflection and laid wreaths in honor of more than 1 million innocent lives lost in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
We were deeply privileged to be joined by guest speaker @TomNdahiro, whose reflections brought profound depth to our collective act of remembrance.
#Kwibuka32 is not only a moment to remember; It is a call to unity, vigilance, and a shared responsibility to ensure that such atrocities are never repeated, anywhere, by anyone.

What a week at the Genomic Frontiers symposium in Kigali, Rwanda! #CZBiohubSF scientists showcased the Remoscope, an AI-powered device that rapidly diagnoses malaria, and discussed our worldwide training in using #genomic sequencing to detect & understand disease.
One health approach is essential to understand emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases dynamics. Public health must focus surveillance systems around habitats and food chain of both animals and humans equally. Here is our paper on MRV genomic analysis.

Genomic analyses from the ongoing outbreak of #MarburgVirus disease in Rwanda point to a single #zoonotic origin of the #outbreak.

The 🇷🇼 Marburg team just published in @NatureMedicine work on genomic analysis revealing an outbreak characterized by limited genetic variation, consistent with single zoonotic (🦇) transmission event and limited human-to-human transmission.

🌍Why I Chose to Study One Health at the University of Global Health Equity;
"This idea began to form in my mind during my final year of medical school in Wuhan, China, and was sparked by the emergence of COVID-19."
