@benmschmidt My version of this idea: plain text as a simple and virtuous "universal interface" is a particularly naive aspect of the unix tradition. Since the 70s plain text has become much much less simple by necessity, but the aesthetic sensibility remains.
@euanc@beet_keeper The irony is that "authentic" records are at least partially constructed by preservationists themseleves, particularly in the case of emulation. Great work by @pwolsen on this.
