“…Kasım 2013’te yeniden Meksika’ya gittim. Salon de la Fama’ya kabul edilmek üzere aday gösterilmiştim.

Karşımda George Weah’ı gördüm. Bana doğru geldi, sarıldık. İlk söylediği şey şuydu:

Yanında siyasi danışmanı vardı. Beni tanımıyordu; gülümsedi ve kendini tanıttı.

Tören başladığında çok heyecanlıydım. George da öyleydi ve bana sürekli ‘Kaptan’ diye hitap etmeye devam ediyordu.

Dönüş yolunda George ile danışmanının konuştuğunu duydum. Bir ara ‘Kaptan’ kelimesini işittim. Sanırım benden bahsediyorlardı ama İngilizce konuştukları için ne söylediklerini anlayamadım.

Meksika’ya vardığımızda servis önce George ile danışmanını otellerine bıraktı, ardından bizim otele geçti.

Otele girer girmez Federico bana, ‘Yolda George ile danışmanının ne konuştuğunu duydun mu?’ diye sordu.

‘Hayır,’ dedim. ‘Sadece benimle ilgili bir şey konuştuklarını hissettim.’

Gülümsedi ve bana anlattı.

Danışmanı, George Weah’a, ‘Bu kişi kim? Neden ona sürekli “Kaptan” diyorsunuz?’ diye sormuş. Ona biraz tuhaf gelmiş.

George ise şu cevabı vermiş:

— Futbol ve siyaset hayatım boyunca birçok kaptan ve birçok lider tanıdım. Ama Franco, benim için tek gerçek kaptandır. “After a long battle, the four-year ban that was imposed on me has been rescinded and I am free to resume my career with immediate effect.

I am grateful that this process has reached a conclusion, that I have been cleared to return to football and that I can now look ahead to my future.

This has been the most difficult period of my career.

As I have always maintained from the outset of this case, I have never knowingly or intentionally taken any banned substance. My commitment to competing fairly and representing my club and country with professionalism and integrity has always been important to me.

I would like to thank my family and friends for their support and belief throughout this period.

I also want to express my deep gratitude to everyone at Chelsea FC, my teammates and the Chelsea supporters who have been with me throughout.

🗣️"Look, I try to stay out of the politics, I really do. But at some point, you just have to ask: who is actually thinking about the game here?

"Gianni Infantino comes out with this idea to sell twenty percent of the World Cup to private equity investors, and I just shake my head. It’s always about more money, more games, more commercialization. They want to hand out twenty million dollars to every federation to buy votes, but what about the actual sport? The World Cup isn't a tech startup you can sell stakes in to the highest bidder on Wall Street. It belongs to the players and the fans. But as usual, the people making these decisions are sitting in air-conditioned offices, miles away from a football pitch, treating a hundred years of history like an investment portfolio.

"And then UEFA comes out and says, 'Oh, football has a soul, we will boycott!' Come on. Give me a break.
"I’ve been criticizing UEFA for years about the Nations League, the bloated Champions League formats, and squeezing the players until they break. Now suddenly they want to act like the guardians of traditional football? It’s laughable. UEFA isn't angry because football is being commercialized—they’ve been doing that themselves for a decade. They’re just angry that FIFA found a bigger bag of money and didn't leave a cut for them.

"It’s two giants fighting over who gets to keep the wallet, while the players and supporters are left in the middle, completely ignored. We keep adding tournaments, adding money, adding investors—and nobody stops to ask if the product on the pitch will even survive it."
