@FrenchwithMissF I'd prefer to avoid having to spend first few minutes writing on board - I'll greet students at door, say a topic as pupils walking into room, their activity is to brainstorm 10 word/sentences, or give infinitive + tense & they have to conjugate etc.

A university has a unique opportunity to close this gap with outreach programmes in schools, and also supporting the young men from these backgrounds who do make it to university to stay there, given much higher drop-out rates of male students.

It's depressing to see an article which completely ignores the class aspect of universities. Boys from wealthy families are just as likely as their sisters to go to university or further training whereas boys from poorer families are a lot less likely to than their sisters.

Am I missing something @BBCNews? The large study found more boys than girls experienced violence yet you use a photo of a girl & only speak to a girl who had been a victim in the article? If boys don't see themselves represented they won't seek help!

@tes @UCET_UK I did a masters, it was a complete waste of time and money. I did get benefit from some of the reading I did, but I could have easily done that myself at home without paying university fees. Best form of CPD is practitioner-led by actual teachers.
