Reminder that Oracle still owns the trademark on JavaScript.

"What?" Yes. When Oracle bought Sun Microsystems in 2009, it bought along with it the JavaScript trademark owned by the latter.

Problem: Oracle has abandoned the trademark. Trademark abandonment is a legal term essentially meaning that a given trademark is no longer used by the parent corporation, and the latter has no intention of using it in the future.

Millions of people all around the world talk about and use JavaScript without ever mentioning Oracle.

@rough__sea (creator of NodeJS) and numerous other legends in the JavaScript world have signed an open letter (read here: https://t.co/iJBSJz0ifq) to Oracle recommending them to take it down.

They are also trying to raise $200k on GoFundMe for federal litigation against Oracle (https://t.co/sHkL5H83uC).

In such a short time, they have already raised $30k. Go help them out!

If Google really wanted to stop people from downloading YouTube videos for free, I imagine they would have hackers onboard that are smart enough to enforce it.

After all, Netflix and other streaming companies have made it much harder to straight up download videos.

The fact that it's still possible to download YT videos without buying the subscription means they somehow benefit from people being able to do it.

And I honestly think downloading a YT video at this point should be free. Imagine clicking on a cooking site, reading an amazing recipe for beef stew, but being asked to pay $4.99/month just to press Ctrl-P.

Maybe this is why they allow the gray market to exist.

I needed to quickly install a Linux Mint VM, and I came across this interesting website:

It apparently offers pre-installed (persistent) versions of most major distros. Seems pretty convenient.

Even after some research (Reddit), I couldn't confirm if this is a legitimate site or if there may be potential backdoors (or other goofy things) hidden within.

Will check back if I lose my bank account (not that there's anything in there).
