I am so excited and immensely proud to receive the first copies of my new book!!

INTELLIGENT: The Evolution of AI Transforming Healthcare.

It is now available globally on Amazon as hardback, paperback and ebook versions.

This has been a long journey writing this book and trying to understand the type of book that was necessary and would have the biggest impact.

The book reflects a decade of my work and thinking on AI and its role in healthcare.

It is written for absolutely anyone interested in this space, from patients, students, clinicians, scientists and health care leaders.

Fundamentally, it's a story of AI and how it will impact all of us in healthcare and gives a critical analysis of the current landscape.

What does it mean to be a surgeon in the age of AI?

At the Forbes Middle East Healthcare Leaders Summit 2026, Professor Shafi Ahmed explored a surgical world being reshaped by artificial intelligence, robotics, connected operating rooms and immersive training.

From moving from an “analog surgeon” to what he calls an “AI surgeon,” to teaching medical students around the world through emerging technologies, his message was clear: the surgeon of the future may not be replaced by technology — but increasingly augmented by it.

Well done @qatarairways.

Yesterday there was a major problem with Air Traffic Control in London. Our flight to Doha QR8 was delayed and we were in the plane for 3.5hrs on the tarmac.

However:

With @Starlink on the flight for all passengers for free it made communication and calls very easy.

Starlink was available even on boarding. With download speeds of around 60Mbps.

On the flight we received emails to confirm flight booking changes.

On landing an army of staff greeted us with everyone being allocated hotel vouchers and new boarding passes.

Luggage would be put on the correct plane to our final destination.

Transportation took us to the hotel with a voucher for all meals.

Qatar Airways really is the world's best airline.

And I getting spend a whole day in Doha, there are worse places to be stranded.

I left my new book as a gift to National Library as a small token of my gratitude.

For much of my career, I’ve been thinking about one central question:

As a full-time surgeon, with deep passion for how technology can augment humanity and improve how we practice our vocation, the art & science of medicine…

I’ve DISSECTED every page, studied every phrase, paused at every paragraph, reflected on every insight…

I bought it, but enjoyed it as a gift.

It is a gift indeed, a present to everyone, patient or medical professional, who wants to understand AI and its role as a pillar of what the future of medicine will and should be.

My country was hit by the strongest earthquake in over a century. Two quakes, M7.2 then M7.5. La Guaira — our coast — is a disaster zone. Likely thousands are dead as recovery is slow and damaged assessed.
