This Indian founder said it best: we have the storytellers, we have the ideas. 🔥
America had Hollywood.
Korea had K-dramas. Japan had anime.
India is the oldest storytelling civilisation on earth, with more languages, myths and heroes than anyone.
Our moment is here.
The world won't just watch Indian stories. The world will come to India to tell its own.
Bharat is rising. 🇮🇳
Analyst write up:
Banks business updates so far
In the right hand part of the table, we have compiled the domestic loan growth or ex FCTL loan growth, as available by bank. This adjusts for the optical bump up in loans because of loans given against FCNR deposits, which is not really NII accretive
On the left hand side, we have compiled TOTAL deposit growth (incl FCNR deposits)
> *Anand Rathi Research | Banking Sector Thematic*
*As Good as It Gets*
*Credit is growing* at its fastest pace in over a decade, *margins appear to have bottomed,* and *asset quality remains near its best levels* . Yet the sector continues to trade below its long-term average multiples. We examine why the cycle has further to run, and the key risks we are watching closely.
*1. Credit growth is sustainable*
System credit at *18–20% y/y (~20.1% in Aug-26)* , with term loans still contributing more incremental credit than WC. Industrial credit up from ~5.5% to ~18.2% y/y; industrial credit-to-GDP recovering from a decade low (~53% vs ~79% at FY04–14 peak). *Deposit growth catching up at ~17.3% y/y,* aided by FCNR(B) inflows.
*2. PSB growth can sustain*
*PSBs outgrew private banks for the 8th straight quarter (18.4% y/y,* ~159bps lead). PSB retail growth ~17.7% vs single digits at HDFC Bank and Axis. PSB LDR ~81% vs ~91% for private banks; SBI domestic LDR just ~74%. Retail deposit growth gap vs private banks narrowed from ~1,080bps to ~105bps since Q1FY25.
*3. Bancassurance impact overstated*
IRDAI commission cap looks alarming vs PBT, but *RoA is the right lens* . Net of costs, bancassurance adds only ~4bps to RoA, *~2.2% of sector PBT (Pvt ~3.7%; PSBs ~1.0%).*
*4. ECL – much ado about nothing*
Banks already carry provisions similar to or higher than NBFCs, with better-quality borrowers. Transition absorbable within existing buffers for most banks. Key swing factors: Stage-2 sizing and LGD calibration.
*5. Margins at a cyclical bottom*
System *NIM stable at ~3.2%* in Q1FY27; yields on advances rose for the first time in several quarters. *Marginal deposit rates down ~88bps vs ~54bps* on the outstanding book – more room for CoF to ease. *Probability of a repo-rate hike rising.*
*6. Asset quality benign; PSBs best placed*
Gross slippage ~0.99%, GNPA ~1.7%, credit cost ~48bps. *PSBs lowest slippage at ~0.72%* , with near-zero net slippage.
*7. Two risks we are watching closely: white-collar jobs and rainfall*
• _White-collar:_ *Hiring* at top-100 companies has stalled, with *headcount flat* in FY26; top-20 IT headcount flat since CY23; Job Speak index and NASSCOM data point to softer hiring. A risk to salaried retail books.
• _Rainfall:_ *Monsoon ~15% below LPA* ; South Peninsula and East & NE each ~26% deficient; 17 subdivisions (~47% of area) deficient. Reservoirs ~21% lower y/y (~33% below normal in the South) – rabi at risk, with potential KCC/crop-loan, MFI and MSME slippages in H2FY27.
_Rainfall is likely a one-season hit; the white-collar slowdown could prove more persistent._
*8. Valuations below 5/10-year averages*
*Sector at ~1.6x P/BV and ~12.2x P/E, ~5% below 5- and 10-year averages, despite RoA of 1.3% (above its 10-year average)* and GNPA of 1.8%. *Private banks ~18% below their 10-year average P/BV.* PSB discount to private banks narrowed from ~75% to ~42% – _we expect it to narrow further._
*Top Picks:* SBI, ICICI, Axis, Indian, BoB, UBI, KVB, CUB, DCB and J&K Bank.
Big day 🔥
🚀 Introducing Dolphin AI - an agentic AI studio for complete video production.
The story of Dolphin is very interesting.
It didn’t start as a product. It started as an internal tool.
We started with one question:
Why does AI video still struggle the moment you ask it to remember what happened before?
The real problem was CONTEXT.
Characters change. Faces drift. Locations and props lose consistency.
So we started building video differently, around three ideas: better context, multi-shot generation and stitched workflows.
Before opening Dolphin AI to the world, 45k+ videos were created through it in our test phase
And we saw the impact firsthand:
→ Better CTR and CTI on ad creatives
→ Higher engagement and retention across micro-drama and micro-learning
→ Faster creative experimentation and iteration
We started operating at a very different scale:
Story TV : : 5,000+ dramas. From 100 dramas a month to 250+ now.
Master: 20,000+ micro learning series.
Ad creatives: From 15K to 100K+ every month.
That gave us conviction that the answer isn’t another model. It’s a better creative system.
For someone starting out, Dolphin has 120+ templates for UGC, social and other use cases.
For creative professionals, our Playground feature brings models, generation and editing into one workspace.
And for longer-form storytelling, World Lock carries characters, voices, wardrobes, props, locations and the visual world across shots.
The system remembers, so the creator can focus on creating.
But our ambition with Dolphin is much bigger than the product...
India is already one of the world’s largest consumers of content.
We believe AI can help us become one of its largest creators and exporters 🇮🇳
We have the storytellers. We have the ideas. AI can give that creativity production scale.
@trydolphinai is our bet on that future 🇮🇳🐬
